Question

Unable to edit title clip (legacy Title tool)

I am done with this dam program.  I have been making Adobe aware of this issue since 2017 came out and they STILL haven't fixed it.  I am tired of having to reboot my software just to get it to work.  Time is money Adobe and I am done with this shit.  I am formally telling you right now that I am going back to Final Cut Pro full time.  As much as I love Premiere, it's become more of a headache than anything else.

In case you want to see what the issue is, here is the link to a recent video I screen shot.

My first time contacting Adobe about this issue was last Fall.

Hey guys, update.  I have tried all methods that you all have recommended.  None of them work as you can see in this video from today.

Have you tried different methods to make those new titles? Here's what I would try:

Rather than editing an existing title on the timeline, ALT CLICK and DRAG to create a copy of that title. Edit the copy. Did that work?

    If not,

Copy everything from the insides of an old title, and then paste it into a new title. Then, put that new title onto the timeline.

    If that didn't work,

Create a brand new title in a bin, put your text into it, and only THEN drag it onto the timeline. Did that work?

If not, your titler tool is hella broken.

It is not limited to text changes either.  It also happens when trying to adjust shapes as well as you can see here in this video.

As a test, go File > Project Settings > General and set the Renderer to Software Only.

Test if the problem persists with that setting.

Ok, so far so good.  It hasn't done anything yet since I changed it over at the project settings.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Adobe has come twice onto my machine.  Deleted prefs, deleted and reinstalled the program, reinstalled a 2nd version of the software, and it has not fixed the problem.  They left it as, "it should be fixed on the next patch"  Well, it's been 3 patches and a year later and it still isn't fixed.  I didn't have this issue with PP 2015.  This happened the moment I upgraded to 2017.

In the text edit box, I cannot change text or adjust effects features without wondering if I am going to have to reboot my program again.  It is that consistent of a problem and I am literally just tired of having to deal with it.

Not having this on my Win10 or Win7 machines, and as MtD said, it's not been reported here by others ... so it's pretty unusual, and maybe a specific problem on your machine.

So ... as MtD offered, give us some info so we can help. No reason this can't be fixed.

What have you tried to correct the issue?

Your video clearly shows the problem but I have not seen this behavior on either of two mac workstations or windows workstation we use.

If it were a systemic problem, you would think you would see many reports of the problem in this forum.

Not knowing what you already have tried, if I were experiencing this issue the first thing I would do is delete the media cache.

The second would be to trash Premiere Pro preferences.

Are these projects that you are having trouble with new projects, or have they been created in previous versions of Premiere Pro and upgraded?

A full hardware/OS system description would also be helpful.
