I need some opinions on which imac to get to run Premiere Pro. Looking at iMac M3 8core CPU and tossing up 8 core vs 10 core GPU and 8gb vs 16gb vs 24gb unified memory. Is the higher end necessary for the efficient running of premiere pro, or is that overkill? Have people successfully run premiere pro on 8 core gpu and 8gb um?

Premiere Pro can make use of all of the hardware you can throw at it. What you need depends on the frame sizes and frame rates and types of formats you are using to edit. Personally I'd start with 16 GB RAM minimum. The RAM is going to be more useful to you than the +2 GPU cores, but Pr certainly can use those +2 GPU cores if they are in the budget.

8GB of RAM just isn't enough for a power user these days. And since its non-upgradable unified memory, you get to regret that decision for years.
To answer your question, sure, Premiere techinically works with 8GB ram but its not going to be a good experience.
