Updated 2018->2019 project loses audio clip references

Hello. Just upgraded to PP 2019 on a mac running High Sierra. Converted a 2018 project. Went to re-link media. Got this pop up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tried 'Replace footage'. Got the video, but no audio. Posted this on the PP adobe forum on the 2nd December. No response yet from Adobe. Having looked at previous posts regarding this, it seems to be a recurring bug after an "upgrade".

This doesn't seem to be the same problem as what we're talking about in this thread.

Mobius Strip: Apologies.

Neil, I meant to say copied. PP 2019 made a new copy of the 2018 project, but would not allow relinking or inputting of the audio from the clips only the video. I will do as you suggested. Thank you.

Converting or "opening" an older version project directly with PrPro is the same thing. And gets the same results. I don't do many things of much project size (relative to some of the long-form folks here!) but even on my smaller projects it's interesting how just opening in a new version mis-connects/loses stuff.

Which doesn't happen often for me with the import into a new project process.

Thanks for the advice Neil.

On further investigation it appears that PP2019 does not like the audio in MTS files. Had no issue this type of filein PP17 or PP18. Also Quicktime has stopped playing these files. Solution was to use Handbrake to convert to MP4. Now video and audio plays in PP.

If QuickTime has stopped playing them, sounds like an OS mini update or something got in there perhaps ...

I noticed you say you converted a previous version project ... I cannot recommend doing so!

There are times you need to bring a project forward, and when you must, I strongly suggest creating a new project in the new version, and from the Media Browser pane, navigating to the old project file, selecting it, right-click import ... as you will

  1. import all the assets of that project
  2. get the best metadata migration (better typically than open/convert)
  3. have the old file still available to work in the old version.

So you might try this process instead. For a lot of people with unlinked/relinking messes on converting, going back and doing this solved the issues or at least the vast majority of them.
