Video transition not working when two clips are from same video file

I'm using the Cross Dissolve transition between clips and it works fine when the clips are from two different video files ("Soft Sculpture 1-17-24.mp4" and "Auman_SS_12_assembly....mp4").

But when I try to apply Cross Dissolve between clips from the same video file, the transition doesn't show.

I've tried applying other transitions as well, and also tried copying the one that works and pasting it here. Neither of these works. This is the only difference I can find between the two instances. Any ideas on how to make this work?

Did you actually cut some frames out? Or just make a cut in the clip?

Because if the later, there aren't going to be any "handles" for a cross-dissolve to use.

Hi Julia32294477n3ll,

Welcome to the community! As R Neil Haugen suggested, clip handles are required for the transitions to work properly. In such cases, you might get a prompt saying Insufficient Media and that the transition will contain repeated frames. Please refer to this link to learn more about clip handles in transitions. Hope you find it useful.

Thanks,

Sumeet

The transitions do work but you are not seeing it.

There is no point dropping a transition between a cut from the same video without trimming back the ends.

The transition will play the same frames.

Transitions need handles to work properly.

Thanks everyone, I understand the issue better now. The problem is I transitioned from using Capcut to Premier Pro in the middle of this project. Here's what I did:

1. Made a first round of cuts in Capcut

2. Exported an mp4 file from Capcut

3. Imported the mp4 file into Premier

4. Made cuts in Premier (at the same points where I had made cuts in Capcut), and did not cut frames out (which @R Neil Haugen said would not work).

5. Unsuccessfully tried to add Cross Dissolve transitions

I'm thinking the only way to make this work is to grab the original footage and redo these sections so I have clip handles to work with. Unless there is another solution or another type of transition (besides Cross Dissolve) that could potentially work? Anyone have any ideas?

You do not need to make separate sections

Just Cut, trim both ends butting the cut, then add transition.
