What if i have already created a plain mask around my subject, and then want to add a visual effect within the already created mask? Is there a way to apply a visual effect within that already detirmined mask or do I have to apply the effect then create a mask from that only?

You can copy-paste masks between opacity or effects to restrict an effect to an already drawn mask.

If I understand your question, you simply apply the effect to the clip, and that will effect the entire clip, but will only be showing within your mask area.
