Learn about best practices for updating Premiere Pro.

New features

The 25.4 release of Premiere Pro features faster editing with Multi Transitions, new Preferences settings for Graphics, live waveform editing and more. It's the perfect time to update. ðŸ˜Š

Live Waveform Editing

whats-new-5-1.jpegLive waveform editing provides real-time visual feedback as you edit audio waveforms. Audio waveforms remain visible when dragging a clip or performing common edit tasks like ripple/roll edits or rate stretch, making it easier to see how an edit impacts audio or cut to the beat. Keyframes and markers are displayed alongside the waveform while dragging a clip, aiding in maintaining.

Edit faster with Multi Transitions

whats-new-1-3.jpegQuickly apply, edit, and manage transitions across multiple audio and video clips at once, speeding up your workflow and keeping edits consistent.

Create and edit multiple transitions at once: Speed up your workflow by simultaneously applying or modifying transitions across numerous clips, ensuring consistency for both audio and video.

Edit using the trim tool or the transition handles across multiple clips in one move: Save time by adjusting fade-in and fade-out handles simultaneously across several audio clips or video transitions, streamlining the editing process.

Delete multiple transitions at once: Remove unwanted transitions from multiple clips in a single action, ensuring cleaner, faster editing workflows.

Apply crossfades for time-aligned cuts: Create smooth audio transitions between clips that are perfectly aligned on the timeline and enhance video transitions for a polished overall quality.

Apply fade-ins and fade-outs on time-aligned and non-aligned clips: Ensure seamless transitions on both audio and video clips, regardless of their alignment on the timeline, for a professional finish.

Create and edit transitions on linked and grouped clips simultaneously: Enhance your workflow by applying transitions across linked or grouped audio and video clips in one action, maintaining consistency and saving time.

Adjust one transition from a linked clip with a modifier: Use a simple modifier, option, or Alt key to tweak the transition of an individual clip, even when it's linked, for precise control.

Snappier Timeline playback

whats-new-4-1.jpegWhether you're fine-tuning a cut or navigating a dense timeline, stable thumbnails will help you stay oriented and confident in your edits. Zoom in or out with the scroll bars, toggle thumbnail modes, and perform your usual edits with a smoother, snappier, and more stable timeline experience.

You can also toggle between different thumbnail display modes: Video Head and Tail Thumbnails, Video Head Thumbnails, or Continuous Video Thumbnails. This gives more control over how thumbnails appear based on your editing needs.

whats-new-7 (1).jpegNew hardware acceleration of 10-bit 4:2:2 media in both H.264 and HEVC codecs on NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, providing great performance for formats that combine small file size and great quality.

ARRIRAW HDE decoding support

whats-new-2-10.jpegNew support for ARRIRAW HDE (High Density Encoding) enabling playback of ARRIRAW that is 60% of the original file size.

New Preferences for Graphics

whats-new-3-10.jpegSet your preferred default fonts for text, subtitles, and closed captions, and ensure wide-aspect CEA-708 captions are imported correctly through the new settings available under Preferences > Graphics.

Default text and subtitle font: Automatically apply your chosen font when creating new text items or subtitle tracks.

Default Closed Caption font: Premiere Pro uses your selected font when creating Closed Caption tracks. By default, the font list shows only Monospace fonts for better compatibility. Turn off this option to see all available fonts.

Wide aspect ratio for CEA-708 Closed Caption: Automatically adjust incorrectly formatted CEA captions to display in a wide aspect ratio, fixing issues where text doesn’t appear correctly after import.

Additional Updates

  • Improvements to the Effect Control panel make keyframing more predictable.
  • Enhancements to the Generative Extend model, including expanded frame rate support.
  • New keyboard commands to toggle track mute and solo based on targeting Search for Adobe Stock media from the File menu.
  • New support for 16-bit PNG images to support newer HDR finishing workflows that require high-bit-depth media. Improved data range and color metadata handling for DNxHR, DNxHD, and PNG.
  • When you select Help or Provide Feedback inside Premiere Pro, you’ll automatically log in to the Adobe Support Community Forums.

Your wit is truly unparalleled. I bet the comedy clubs in your town are just lining up to have you. That level of humor should definitely be broadcast to a wider audience, maybe on prime-time TV!?

Great update for M1 iMac user on Sequoia 15.6 (said sarcastically). PP would not launch. Greeted with a message saying the file is damaged. Couldn't even uninstall with the included uninstall app listed below the Premiere Pro app file. I get that mistakes happen but this is not what we're paying for. Be best, Adobe.

This is a macOS thing and has happened across multiple versions to multiple people. Plenty of instances on the forums that list solutions

Really not a fan of how the dissolve transition just vanishes when adjusting to the smallest size in between clips in the timeline. This was my go-to method for tight dissolve, and now I am spending extra time on precision—having to zoom all the way just to ensure the dissolve is accurate. Specifically 00:00:00:02 duration.

Is there any way to get rid of the "Transition will be cleared" feature?

This wasn't an issue until this recent update.

When you select a large chunk of files in the timeline and try to drag them somewhere else it now takes forever. You wait and wait for the program to show you where your clips will be placed only to be wrong again, because you moved your mouse a bit. Very unprecise and slow all of a sudden.

Yes i've noticed this too. You can use keyboard shortcuts for ripple delete all the footage before or after the playhead. I think it's W/Q by default.

Yes, but sometimes you might just wanna insert something into a 70min timeline and reorder certain sequences and so selecting everything after a certain point (standard shortcut A usually) is a nice to have. Used to work until now, but maybe because of the new real time waveform thing it tries to keep up with ALL the waveforms I've selected as it's trying to real time update them, which is just... unfortunate and unnecessary. 😉

Yeah deleting has nothing to do with needing to move stuff around. The timeline improvements they mentioned are noticable for me except for this issue which is a huge step backwards. Hopefully they can patch this quickly. One of the big issues with Premiere these days is they don't do small bug fix updates. They tend to put the bug fixes into the beta and then you have to wait for the next .X release for it to trickle out.

I have to uninstall it. I can't export a 2-minute file; it takes up 100% of the RAM. I'm using different MOV files, etc., and on 4 different editing platforms.

This is "GREATEST UPDATE SO FAR". This is a total joke. When idling, it's pulling 70% of my RAM; there are no files in the project, zero.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS FAILED UPDATE!

Really? And you sound proud of the update? What a joke. Resolve's two versions back had 100 AI tool support, including a myriad of transcript languages, and you still haven't included a transcript for the Arabic language?

Where are the titles and captions presets, i.e. auto word/sentence highlights, etc.

I am telling you, and mark my words, in less than two years you will lose 25% of your users, who will migrate to Resolve. Already, you know how many stopped their subscription with you; check social media—thousands are leaving every week.

Adobe users have a strong conviction that Adobe is no more a user-centric company but BOD pleasing company.

Closed Captions feature has Auto Translation, which is great !
The problem is the languages list does not include Arabic Language , I googled and flound that it was requested since the closed captions feature is out! but no response , so here I am to bring some facts to the table from simple google search
Arabic Language is the 5th most spoken language globally! Yet it is not included in the list, and other smaller languages are included in the CC auto trnslate feature, which doesn't make since.
I hope we get this feature soon in the next update.

Absolutely not. New features added that I do not need and will never use, while issues I am struggling with are not fixed. HD MTS file structures cannot import properly on newer versions of Premiere and the audio is off sync by 15-25 frames, inconsistently. I had to roll back to 24.0.0 to fix that problem. And color space... what I see in preview is not what I get on render. I'm trying to find a fix for that now, and the "help" section on here is not helpful.

DO BETTER
I don't need new features if what I see is not what renders out.

Mistakenly, I uploaded the wrong screen shot. Previously was the original file and in premiere... this version has the output from premiere alongside the preview Premiere was giving me.

PingFang TC font not displaying in Premiere Pro 25.4.1 on macOS 15.6.1 (Sequoia)

Description:
After updating to Premiere Pro 25.4.1 on macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 (24G90), the system font PingFang TC (Traditional Chinese) cannot be displayed in the Essential Graphics panel or text layers.

  • Other fonts (e.g., Noto Sans TC, Microsoft JhengHei) display correctly.

  • PingFang TC still works normally in other Adobe apps and system-wide.

  • The issue seems specific to Premiere Pro 25.x — PingFang TC was working fine in previous 24.x versions.

  • Clearing Adobe font caches (~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Fonts, ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/TypeSupport, AdobeFnt*.lst) and rebooting does not fix the problem.

  • Since macOS 14+, ATS is no longer supported, so atsutil cannot be used to reset font caches. The problem persists even after a clean cache reset.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create a new text layer in Premiere Pro 25.4.1.

  2. Select PingFang TC as the font.

  3. Type Traditional Chinese text.

Expected Result:
Text should display properly using PingFang TC (system default Traditional Chinese font).

Actual Result:
Text box appears blank — no characters are rendered.

System Info:

  • macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 (24G90)

  • Premiere Pro 25.4.1

  • Apple Silicon Mac (M-series)

Notes:
This issue is blocking for editors who rely on PingFang TC as the default Traditional Chinese font in macOS. Other CJK fonts work fine, which suggests a compatibility bug specifically with PingFang TC in Premiere Pro 25.x.

Request:
Please confirm if this is a known issue and whether a fix is planned in future updates.
