When I change color of a word the whole text changes color

Hi, community.

I create a text via the Text tool in my video in PP 2023.4. In this text I select a word I wanna be of a different color than the rest of the text, go to FILL in the text preferences and change it, but the whole text changes its color instead. It is certainly a bug either a poorly designed feature. Is there a way to work this around?

The most peculiar thing is that SOMETIMES changing color of a particular word works (see the screenshot) and I do not know why - the steps taken are just the same.
