Why did they remove the option to keep the previous version with everything included?

I don't understand it:

I am in the middle of the final editing of a feature film.

As everyone suggests and knows well, at this stage is NEVER advisable to swap applications versions and system versions.

As a paying customer for Adobe, why did they remove the option to keep the previous version with everything included?

Their app on my desktop no longer offers this option: I wanted to try the new improvements they talk about.

As I'm working on a feature I have festivals waiting for our latest versions and so on and I can't risk to ruin our work with my previous bad experiences with their internet updates policy.

This policy is against privacy and personal ability to choose what is actually needed.

Does anyone know if there is a way to download the new version with the option to keep the previous one?

    Just a reminder that a) many older versions are no longer available due to the dolby issue and b) for no reason I can see, the only version now available for 2018, is the final release 2018.1.2. Many users who want to get back to a previous version are looking for something other than the final release.

    That is one of the reasons I consider a pre-update clone an essential part of my update routine.

    I don't know why this change now, I saw no notice ahead of time about it being planned for the PR 2019 dot update. I sure don't like it!

    I commend you for using a clone option to ensure you are covered. I once had a routine update, keeping previous versions, but it actually uninstalled EVERY version I had (5 at the time) of Adobe Media Encoder. So I am just as paranoid as you are on whether I can trust the "uninstall while installing updates" behaviors of the apps. Always clone!

    That said, I had no problem with the current update. Once I selected the option when presented (as you describe), I was not presented again on my second machine. Worrisome. But in my Creative Cloud desktop app, under preferences, 3 dots at the top -> Preferences -> Creative Cloud -> Apps. At the bottom, is "Enable auto-update."     Thanks for your time and replies: however

    I already unchecked the automatic updates as soon as I reinstalled my previous version (from a back of my whole system and apps done with Carbon Copy Cloner).

    The messages should appear as a user choice "before" the update begins.

    I am sorry but in my case I didn't see these messages. I instantly close the desktop app as I didn't want to risk.

    If they happen during the update or later I don't know as I forced quit the app before. I'm on a Mac, maybe the Windows version is different.

    Now we are in December 2018: 3 years and 6 months later unfortunately.

    I received two warnings before I upgraded to 2019:

    • Remove old versions
    • Automatic updates (required two confirmations)

    Are you saying you did not get the warnings?

    I've still a question about subs ... (we talk about it before)

    In this new version do they treat caption files as every other: in other words can the user cut, add, modify text files freely as every other clip (video, audio, etc.) ?

    After a rest of the planet reads subs while watching even on Television.

    I am worried about allowing Premiere to this new version so much talked about. I will try it in my Powerbook id they thought about fixing this caption problem.

    There are some caption fixes, but none that would allow recombining open caption streams. And I think none that would help any of the issues you had. If you test, let us know what you find.
