Youtube killing my premiere project

Hi adobe community,

I am in this sticky sitatuion and I do not know what else to do to fix this problem. I have rendered at least 6 different versions of this project and cannot get one that is significantly better than the other when it is uploaded to youtube. Essentially, we shot a project for a client, denoised the image best as possible, color graded it and tried to salvage a more or less dark shot. The issue is that it looks ok on the computer, decent in vimeo, but completely destroyed in youtube. I understand that there is extra compression on youtube but I am looking for any tips/help to try to fix this problem. I have attached sample images and the settings I am using to render. Thank you!

I just uploaded a test clip using those settings. Be ware of that you want to upload the .mxf file and not the similar .xmp file you get when exporting. 🙂

It turned out that it was not the best settings for me since my source footage is 24.00 fps while the export i got is 23.976. You can also text QuickTime and use the GoProCineForm YUV 10-bit preset. The default Quality is set to 4 and that´s overkill for YouTube so try either 2 or 3. Even 1 should be enough. The lower the Quality slider is set, the smaller the files. 🙂

Hey Guys!! Thank you so much for the great recommendations. I tried using Prores and got significantly better results. I wamt to use DNxHD to compare the differences but I am not seeing that Youtube is able to support the file format. Any recommendation on that? Thank you.

Not everybody has a good upload speed, because those files take ages to upload.

Correct, but many people do have, so i see nothing wrong recommend it if quality is an issue.

For best quality on YouTube, export to either CineForm/ProRes or DNxHD/DNxHR and upload that file to YouTube.

Or if you stay with H.264, use a higher bitrate and use CBR instead of VBR. Minimum bitrate i would have used is 30 Mbps. More is better but uploading CineForm/ProRes or DNxHD/DNxHR directly is best when it comes to quality.

Youtube is know for its re-encoding. Nothing you can change about that.

Turn off Max Render and Max Depth and try Adaptive high bitrate.
