Adding a new feature named "Unnest" to Adobe Premiere Pro CC

Hello. I am Sabzipour. I'm a film editor and I work professionally with Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro is my favorite software and I've been working with it for over twenty years and I want to do something to improve it.
After you nest several clips in Premiere Pro timeline, you may need to separate them again and “unnest” them. So you double-click on the nested sequence to open in another timeline.
My suggestion is that when we double click on the nested sequence, it will open in the current sequence, not in an independent sequence. Or when right click on the nested sequence, add an option in the menu named “Unnest” , which by clicking on it, the nested sequence will be opened in the same current sequence.

Yes Adobe please create an "unnest" button somewhere!
Davinci has something like this but Adobe needs a button or a shortcut for unnesting

Yes, it seems bizarre that this feature is missing. I had to google this and it's crazy what people have to do achieve what should be possible with one click.

Resolve has this as Decompose in place. U ppl shud have Unnest or Deconstruct in Place like Layer via cut and Paste in Ph. It has to have the memory of layering when nesting so it gets back to the same layer positions when unnesting. This is quite easy feat to achieve why don't you make it.

Definitely needs this..
a "trim, collapse and unnest" option

I'm working on a doco timeline with 300 nested groups throughout and I need to individually unnest them.. it really shoudl NOT be as time consuming as it is!

Greetings fellow editors,

meet Grave Robber - an extension that will un-nest nests and multicam sequences.

You can learn more about it here:

I have been experiencing discomfort for a long time and fully support the new NEST unlock feature. Guys do it as soon as possible. Just one click and the whole hierarchy of your work is restored. This is an extremely important function that has not been available until now. Now it's an extra job, although there are at least 3 ways to get it back. But the new feature would speed up the process. Developers, pay attention to this rather. Waiting waiting waiting

Yes! I find it counterproductive not to have and UNNEST feature.

FCPX have something similar called COMPOUND and I can easily UNCOMPOUND my clips by simply pressing CMD+G.

Adobe wake up! and add an un-nest option, we make lots of nests for large edits and need to bring back the original clips for the final master.... please make it happen! We are a professional production house.

Edit: I discovered the grouping feature. Which is more appropriate than nesting in my case.

The workarounds that we have to go through to un-nest are time consuming. One button to un-nest would be ideal and make sense. It can be nice to nest a cut up audio file to make edits that apply to all of them. And then I need to un-nest the audio to bring it back to the cut up version so I can tweak specific spots.

Also when I duplicate a sequence it is automatically nested. If I want to view individual cuts or work on the duplicated file at all I need to un-nest it. Which means watching another YouTube tutorial about this topic because it is so unintuitive. So instead of using the elegant feature to duplicate I have to select all, make another timeline, and paste all. All of this should be one step but it is much faster than doing it the right way and having to figure out how to un-nest once again.

@CheeseConsumer  I was wondering about grouping? How do you deal with the fact that grouping isn't visual? It seems like one could easily get lost with multiple groupings in a larger project.

Seems like a broken user experience that Adobe has ignored for several years. Adobe should at least add a big warning modal in the UI before creating a nested sequence asking the user to confirm and letting users know that it can't be undone, and that users will have to revert the nested clips manually one-by-one in a labor-intensive manual process. Or just create an unnest feature like all the competing video apps allow. Big tech often has a lot of disregard for its users. The bloat and tech debt in Adobe Premiere are pretty bad the more I use it. Really thing other apps like Davinci are better positioned for the future.

This functionality already exists in Premiere Pro.

While it isn't a right-click command un-nesting is pretty simple.

  1. Just disable the Nest Sequence button at the top left of the Timeline. It is the button next to the Snap button.
  2. Drag your nested sequence back into the timeline and it comes in as it's component parts.

It accomplishes the same function, but instead of working on a sequence already on the timeline it is performed when adding something. It just does it with a drag and drop or keyboard shortcut.

So I'm not sure the developers would/should spend time creating an alternative method that mimics that functionality.
