An option to revert the Mouse scroll change Program Monitor

In the latest 24.4 version of Premier Pro, you can zoom in and out by mouse-scrolling on the program monitor.

This is good for those who want to add effects precisely but not for editing at a fast speed

I really hope there's a way to revert the change so my productivity goes back to 100%

Agree a thousand percent!

PLEASE bring back the old functionality of the monitor program using mouse scrolling.

Agree this is so frustrating, want the old version back or make it an option for people to choose.

Just went and updated my adobe for the first time this year, immediately reminded why you don't update things because Adobe has this *amazing* /s habit of adding things completely unnecessarily, you could literally zoom in before just with the fit button or, oh i don't know, alt and scroll wheel?

I swear they do this just to screw with people. and then demand an extra $20 a month for it

the "feature" which causes the scroll wheel to change the "fit " of the program window is another example of Adobe stupidity! this is a terrible bug which has caused me and thousands of others many hours in lost productivity due due inadvertant scroll wheel movement, which cause us to reframe our content. If you are going to do something as risky as this Adobe shold at least give us a visua reference so we know we are seeing the entire output image. howabout a red box around the monitor when not =  "fit"? Adobe PLEASE STOP doing things that cost your customers hours of time! Resolve doesn't have such stupidity!

It's not a bug, that's the new way it is. Like AI, PS, AE, etc... zoom the monitor.

You'll get used to it. BTW: The zoom drop-down right on the screen changes as you zoom, if it doesn't say "Fit" you know your seeing some other view, zoomed in, some bits are not seen, zoomed out, you're seeing more of your surroundings.

Just add the OPTION to use the original frame-by-frame timeline scrolling when using mousewheel over the program monitor, and EVERYONE will be happy. This is NOT difficult.

The Play Button area where you have to do this now is WAY too small and slows down the workflow

@alexandre_8289 , I'm getting used to it. At times we have to click on little buttons, and pancake menus, wrench menus, turn on/off snapping, etc, etc... so, that's a giant target by comparison.

I agree. Old style of mouse wheel was much better, it's much faster. Just add option so user can select what he wants to do: scroll frame by frame or zoom, it's so easy, just few lines of code. Old style was better for montage, new style is better for adding effects, just let user select what he needs right now.

It wasn't that long ago that Chrome moved the downloading tab/notification at the bottom to the current top Download arrow and circle. I noticed using it normally the other day, like it was always there.

Still not fix to this?

Any workaround?

This makes me want to get an external jog wheel, however not much available for Premiere Pro...

Just spent hours correcting auto-generated subtitles (lots of misplaced punctuation, upper and lower case letters, uneven text lines, but that's not the big gripe here) and the super-slippery sizing of the program monitor window pushed my sanity to the edge.

Come on, throw an option button in here. Or is this what will finally push us all the way to Da Vinci Resolve?

Resolve has a far less customizable UI, and is still missing many keyboard shorts compared to Premiere or Avid. But for some editing uses is entirely adequate.

My many colorist buds do have long lists of hoped for things there also. Sadly none of these apps are near perfect.

Thanks, @R Neil Haugen

That's true about Resolve. I use it regularly as an alternative and have been planning to move over because 1. there's only a one-off payment for studio version, 2. it has a large suite of tools beyond what Premiere alone offers, 3. it's good not to rely only on the main players like Adobe, 4. it's Australian and deserves support, 5. they're pretty responsive to requested functions, and 6. there's a lot more of a user base now.

Why haven't I moved over? 1. Premiere's workflow and layout suits me better, 2. I can do more with keystroke shortcuts in Premiere, 3. some clients want to share the Premiere files,  4. Premiere has a good user-supporter base (you and others) and 5. I've been too busy.

Back to the topic, this slippery sizing problem is very offputting and surely wouldn't take much to rectify. Right?

I've got a list of things for both Premiere and Resolve I'd like changed ... and actually had a

couple of my Premiere requests get supported and done.

Resolve ... yea, they've fixed many things, changed some, but the things I'd be interested in they aren't probably gonna go for. Like some of the color things in Premiere ... I'm told that 1) yea, that would be killer but 2) you and maybe 20 other people would actully use it.

And at that point, realistically, it ain't gonna happen. So I work in both while very aware that I'd love changes. Ah well, we are all different. Nature of being human.

At least, thankfully, Tangent has been able to create an addition to their mapping software that allows one to map a few more things to their panels than Resolve allows. Resolve added support for say the Elements panel back about R12, or so ... and it was pretty basic, with most of the panel 'dead' at any one time. And a weird way of getting through options to get the things they did map "up".

BlackMagic does not allow any other hardware maker to natively connect to Resolve using standard API things. The only way they allow, is with their devs creating the 'map' ... and you better believe, it's gonna be a limited one.

Understandable, as Resolve is provided now clearly as a loss leader to get people to buy BlackMagic hardware. The sales of the Studio licenses probably barely cover the cost of the licensing system ... if that. As with a lot of BM kit, you get a 'free' Studio license.

And yea, I've got enough BM kit to have a couple extra licenses in the drawer, I'll probably use at some point. Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k G2, BMPCC4K, a couple Atem units ... all of which I love using. The cameras produce amazing media for the price.

But the Resolve UI is to me back-side unpretty .... ahem. And as you can't customize, and I'm so used to Premiere I've got nine custom workspaces, and use a ton of shorts, AND ... that Elements panel?

Wow ... in Premiere an Elements panel does everything. I can use it for size/position rotation of any screen item including text & graphics. Track mixer control ... those twelve knobs are awesome ... the balls & rings are handy for 'trackball' mouse work, one set fast, one slow.

In Resolve, all it does is a few things from the Color page. But nothing of any tool added since R12, and according to the staffers at NAB, ain't gonna get anything else either. Period.

The new "Warp Engine" from Tangent at least made it so I can map the Color Slice and HDR palettes to my panel. Which are actually pretty slick for basic log neutralization and matching. In Rec.709 ... yea, works nice.

But I still can't use it for audio or anything. Sigh.

So if we don't have an option to decide how we want to use the mouse wheel, it also means we can't customize Premiere now, right?

Huh?

All of the options to move things around, create your own workspaces, are still totally there. So I'm puzzled at your comment. Compared to about any other NLE, it's amazingly customizable.

If not always as any one of us might prefer.

Actually, compared to emerging editing software, Premiere has very limited features and lacks pre-built effects. Yet, we still spend significant time and money using Photoshop, After Effects, or plugins to create effects that other software can achieve effortlessly. But how do we regain the speed we've lost?

We're not like you. We're racing against time every second. With the rise of new editing software, this profession is becoming increasingly competitive, and even making a decent living is uncertain.

I have to tell you, we don't have the luxury of time. That's why we're here, complaining about our diminished efficiency. Meanwhile, those who do have time are already transitioning to other software. Both those speaking up here and those staying silent are leaving you behind.

Let me rephrase the question more accurately on behalf of others: How do we regain the speed we've lost?

Which emerging software? I've heard of a couple ones built largely around AI features, but they are fast at a few things, and simply have no capability for many other things typically used in editing workflows. So useful only in limited, specific projects.

You can still advance frames using the mouse wheel, but you need to have your cursor over the time ruler in the Program Monitor.

I think in not-a-long-time, you could get used to the somewhat smaller, lower scrolling area to use your tried and true method. It's unlikely that is ever going back to moving the mouse over the entire monitor. So, otherwise, you'd be stuck with the older version, and there are many good things coming in updates, you could likely use.

I would really love a little "lock" icon next to the "Fit" that locks the Zoom Level. Editing with an Apple Magic Mouse and the accidental zoom level change is constant. Very, very frustrating.

See if the slight adjustment they made to the workflow in Beta works better for you. There, you need to press a modifier to zoom in and out. Bumping the mouse, merely pans the image off center a little. It's less jarring, even though the issue is still not completely satisfactory for some. I'll keep advocating for this request.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks so much, Kevin!

I'll be sure to give that a try, although it sounds like I'm still going to be running into accidental movement that I'll have to then stop and reset when what I'm really seeking is the ability to lock or disable any of those settings. Seems like the best way to please both sets of users would be to make it an easy customization like that?
