Caption Track Style: Make Available Across Projects

See this Beta announcement for developments on caption/text styles:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta-discussions/now-in-beta-premiere-pro-text-styles-en...

Original post:

Currently, to share a Caption Track Style, it must be saved to disk from the Project Panel, then imported to a new project. Several users are asking for an easier way to share across projects and with their team members. In the Beta forum, staff indicated in Dec 2020 that "loading from libraries" was part of future plans. This is needed.

100% needed. In our production we have a few defined caption styles that are used depending on the project on a daily basis. It's tiresome to always import or create the same styles.

Export option is great for sharing with other users - but irksome to re-import for each project. Check MSWord styles - save them once and they're on the menu for all documents

100% we need caption track styles to work with CC libraries. If they worked the same as .mogrt files where I could just grab them from the libraries pannel that would be really useful.

Agreed. I have several projects that need to have the same style of captions, and having to keep track of the file we used is a pain that could be removed with this feature.

Hello,
the fact that it "happens" in the project is already a good idea ...

BUT, for "big network" (hundreds of users, multi-sites connected, interconnected NAS-SAN storage, sharing of projects and skins,...), how could we exchange-share-propose a set of styles in a dynamic and permanent way?

Could you consider this in the same way as you did with the Graphic Essentials (integration of a patch with folder management for example)?
Thanks for your attention, Vincent.

Yes, the captions track style preset choices should be available to all projects, not just the currently open project. Right now I have to rebuilt the track style for every project.

@aw - why do you need to rebuild the track style for every project? You can save the style to your hard drive, then import into every project for which you need it.

I use Post-Haste to create projects, and set it up such that the caption track styles I need are in the template project file. Then every time I begin a new project the caption track style is already right there in the project panel for me to use.

@Matt Young - You're right, I've now discovered how to export the .prtextstyle file and then import it into new projects, which works. However, there are many presets in other parts of premiere that are available globally in premiere, available for use in any premiere project, without having to save the preset to the hard drive and re-import. An example would be the view presets. It's just confusing that some presets are always there, and others not.

@aw I absolutely agree with you, and have voted for this user suggestion (which is why I get notifications about comments to it). I'm glad you've figured out the workaround, and hopefully Adobe will make caption styles globally available as a preset soon.

Recreate the wheel every time I use sub titles? An option to save my settings should have been an easy thing for Adobe to do. what is this, zoho or something? lol

This would be very useful. We have corporate defined style guides that we have to adhere to and I have to recreate this style in every project I caption. It would easier if this could be saved. I'm sure it would be a great quality of life improvement to many users.

Has this been implemented yet?

I don't know why this isn't a default setting. Why the heck do I need to recreate a new style every project. We have brand guidelines and I need it synced to our CC library.

Think your stuff through, adobe staff.

michael esperance, Yes, I think so? As of version 22.0.0 build 169, when I create a caption style, the style shows up as a file in one of my bins. If I right click I have the option to "Export Text Styles..." which seems to save the file as a Adobe Premiere Pro Text Style format, which I assume I could then import into a new project.

@michael esperance - The ability to save caption styles in the CC Library and then access them from the Library window within Premiere has *not* been implemented yet. The best workflow currently as mentioned in the original change request from Stanley Jones: from Premiere, save the caption style to disk, and then import that style into subsequent projects to use them.

Best way is I think is to save to C:\Users\username\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\22.0\Profile-username\Styles
That's easy to copy for different users and it should always available with a new project.
(Like AME presets)

@Theo Kooijmans - this method does not work for me. I put the file in the location you specified, but when creating captions in a new project no style was available in the drop-down menu of the 'create captions' dialog.

It makes absolutely no sense that this isn't available - I've been going nuts trying to figure out why I couldn't find the style I had defined.

This is a no-brianer. Adobe CC libraries need to recognize Adobe's file types like .prcaptionspreset and .prtextstyle files. Or at least allow .zip files so a set of style files can be shared via the branding library. This is critical for maintaining brand alignment across content creators.

I thought this was automatic. How would a subtitle style NOT be able to be saved?

How do I vote several thousand times? It's very confusing that subtitles are included in essential graphics, but captioning is not....

There’s an easier workaround to this- if it wasn’t mentioned in the thread already: Open an older project with the correct captions style and copy/ paste one of the caption clips into the new sequence’s caption track (if the captions are already made). Then click on the up arrow next to Track Style to push the style to all captions in your timeline.
