Request for Full MTS/AVCHD (AC-3) Support in Adobe Premiere Pro 2025

Dear Adobe Premiere Pro Team,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the handling of MTS/AVCHD files in Adobe Premiere Pro 2025. While these files worked flawlessly in previous versions such as Premiere Pro 2022, the 2025 release appears to have introduced serious compatibility issues.

The main problems that many users, including myself, are experiencing are:

No audio playback due to the missing AC-3 (Dolby Digital) codec.

Distorted or noisy audio when MTS files are imported.

Audio/video sync issues that were not present in earlier versions.

In some cases, the files fail to import at all, even though they are industry-standard AVCHD recordings.

MTS/AVCHD remains a widely used recording format for professional and semi-professional camcorders. Many editors have extensive archives in this format, and being unable to work with these files in the latest version of Premiere Pro disrupts workflows and forces us to downgrade or use third-party conversion tools.

We kindly ask Adobe to:

Restore full AC-3 audio decoding support in Premiere Pro 2025 (or provide an official codec solution).

Fix the import and sync issues affecting MTS/AVCHD files.

Ensure future updates maintain backward compatibility for legacy but still widely used media formats.

Adobe Premiere Pro has always been known as a professional solution that supports a wide variety of formats. Addressing this issue will greatly improve user confidence and maintain the software’s reputation as an industry leader.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope this matter can be resolved in an upcoming update.

Sincerely,
Firat

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

The AC-3 issue is affecting those that have clean installs of Win11-24H2, and presumably going forward. There's a thread around here that discusses it and @Averdahl found a solution, I'll look for it and post the thread.

BTW: I believe it's Dolby that created this problem. They want licensing fees. Here's the thread which has a still valid good solution:

I just looked for some MTS files and indeed they were not playing audio. I had installed the file from that other thread some time ago, and I just did now which immediatly brought back working audio on Media Player, PP, etc. Potplayer and Vlc played it regardless.

The way Dolby operates, the only way that Adobe could reinstate AC3 support would be to completely revert to a perpetual license model with an extremely high upfront purchase price, which will not happen – ever. These licensing fees also mean that DaVinci Resolve does not support AC3 at all (in this case, never did, never will). And in the case of Resolve, videos with embedded AC3 audio will simply import with no audio.

Moved to Ideas board.

Although guessing this is never going to happen.

Install an ac3 codec.
