Text based editing - import existing paper edit TXT file

Loving the text to edit function - I usually edit on AVID and this seriously saves alot of time.

Just working through the functionality of the transcription and text based editing - one piece of functionality that would be a DREAM to have - since we can EXPORT the sequence transcript or the raw source transcript.

I took that text file and used a PAPER EDIT in TXT.

What I'm wondering - is if there's a way to IMPORT and paper edit TXT file and Premiere will automatically splice in the paper edit script directly onto a sequence (rather than having to splice in paper edit manually).

This would save so much time - since I work with producers on the paper edit, usually we need to export a paper edit for shareholder approval. So - once we've locked in the paper edit (with corresponding TC) - it would save alot of time if we can just simply import the TXT paper edit into premiere and it automatically inserts each sound bite (in the order from the paper edit) onto a sequence.

Hopefully this makes sense - happy to clarify.

Thanks!

Justin,

Upvoted.

I think the current answer is that you cannot do what you would like. Things are evolving and there are options to take paper edits and modify text.

But I think you are asking if you can take an exported transcript, move things around in a paper edit, and have the sequence be modified based on those moves.

You can make corrections to particular words, but as soon as you change much, it may create problems. But deletes and moves have to be made in the program for the sequence to adapt.

You've posted this as an idea, which is the right place for it. Staff are still actively working on many aspects of text-based editing.

Thanks - as a professional editor using AVID, just having text to edit functionality (and auto transcription) is a huge boost and cuts out alot of time.

The paper edit is still used professionally and I've experimented edit workflows without it but the simplicity of quickly reading and piecing together a narrative on paper is still FASTER than listening through an edit and piecing things together.

Since the TEXT to EDIT functionality allows you to splice in the edit on the sequence.

I wonder how an AI can be trained to read the inputted TXT Paper Edit and automatically splice it into the sequence (even if it's slow and takes a few minutes - would take half a day to a full day to do it manually).

This simple AI functionality for text to edit would truley be a game changer within the documentary, corporate, broadcast docu-series worlds and allow editors to think creatively rather than be bogged down by a mundane tasks of splicing in footage based on a paper edit... usually this tasks is completed by an assistant editor in a professional setting, but for so many editors doing everything all at once... it would very much save hours or days of an editors time.

I can't believe only two editors, Stan Jones and Justin Ferrato are the only people asking for this feature. As Justin correctly states this would be an absolute Game Changer in the long format video world. We love having the ability to export a transcript to do a paper cut. But that feature would be so much more useful if we could take that paper cut and import it back into Premiere and have it create a sequence based on that paper cut (Text File).  Let's go Adobe, hit another one out of the park with this new feature.

I'm looking for exactly this functionality today.   Any updates on this concept?   I'm about to jump onto a project where the story producer has already built a paper cut, and wondering if I can import this somehow and make the assembly 'automatically'?
