Question

Adobe premiere program monitor

When I open a project in Adobe Premiere, the program monitor of the sequence just displays a black or white screen. I can only hear sound. Being unable to see what I'm editing renders Adobe premiere practically useless.

I've heard about several people who've had the same issue and I spent a lot of time trying out different solutions, such as reïnstalling the program, cleaning up cache and installing a different driver. So far, no luck.

I hope to solve this issue soon. Thanks.

Sandro

I had the same problem (Mac Pro 2010) until I clicked on "Effects" in the topmost panel.  Previously it was in "Editing" mode.  When I attempted to open a Project Monitor Window, a white rectangle came up, the little colored disk started spinning, and it spun until I did a forced Quit.

I have no idea why going to "Effects" mode  brought up the Program Monitor, but I seem to be back in business.  Of course, all my Adobe programs (photoshop, Bridge, and Premiere) crash regularly, but I've concluded it might be my hardware, because the same versions of these programs run flawlessly on my Macbook Air.

I've read through all associated threads dealing with program monitors not displaying video and have yet to find a solution that works. Regardless of how I import video, when I add it to the sequence timeline, I can't see any video. I just see a gray screen. The audio plays, but no video. It happens when creating new projects or when I open up past projects.

Based on forum suggestions:

  • Making sure source patching and composite video are on
  • Deleting and re-importing files.
  • Deleting my project and creating a new one.
  • Uninstalling Premiere Pro CC 2018 and reinstalling it.
  • Installing previous versions of Premiere
  • Updating my computer.
  • Changing my renderer from GPU Acceleration to Software Only.
  • Resetting my work spaces.
  • Switching off of extended screen (I use multiple monitors).
  • Installing GPU drivers using GEForce Experience

Try this:

Click on Settings / Composite Video.

Hi, Thanks for all the reactions. It took me a while before I could actually check them.

My issue has changed a little bit since trying to install different versions of Premiere. I have an Adobe cloud account, which allows me to install different versions, even at the same time. Now, whenever I open the latest version of premiere and I try to import a video file to the timeline (any video file) the program just crashes. I've tried all available versions of Premiere. The one that does seem to work well is Premiere CS6, it hasn't crashed so far. It seems like a pretty good temporary solution to just use that one, but of course I can't open any recent video projects as they were created in a more recent Premiere version.

I have already tried step 3A from the instructions manual. Perhaps I should look through the entire manual. Trying to change the video settings to composite video is one of the first things I tried.

More information:

- The video's I use are mostly MTS files from my Sony camera

- I hope you can understand my system specs, since they're in Dutch

Thanks again

Did you copy entire card to hdd before importing via the Media Browser?

Which Pr build are you using?

My first thought is Step 3A below.

Like Jim said, try updating your graphics card drivers (from Vendor website, not the OS).

Let us know if this helped.
