I'm hoping to understand if I can delete an XMP files associated with MXF clips for archival purposes. Can anyone help me decipher this message I just got back from Adobe Support?
Hello
This email in regards to your recent contact with Adobe related to .xmp files , we have checked and replicate the same and we have located that if under preferences you have checked the boxes under media category to save or stored the clip markers or clip metadata information on .xmp, it will going to delete/remove if your removing your .xmp files and it will going to recreate your new .xmp files again.
Disclaimer: We have suggest you to do not delete/remove your .xmp files or you may loose some essential data related to Premier Pro projects.
Regards
Adobe Support
Thanks!
They can be recreated, but as the message says, you may lose info if you delete them. (Markers, metadata, etc.)
So...keep them all.

Translation, keep the files. (They're very small.)

Thanks for the reply Jim! If it were that simple, I would - as you say - just keep the files and move on.
However, I have multiple copies of these XMPs from different media sets and need to figure out which ones to keep and if there is data saved in one that's not in the other or vice versa.
So it would be helpful to know how these are generated, if they can be recreated, and other details about their function.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
