AVCHD/BDMV file format not supported

just received a bunch of footage shot on Sony ILCE6500 with AVCHD, an M4ROOT folders and a SONY folders.

attempted to import using "import", using the media browser and also trying drag and drop. in all instances, i'm getting the following alert

file import failure

B-ROLL > day1_card1/AVCHD/BDMV/INDEX.BDM

B-ROLL > day1_card1/AVCHD/BDMV/MOVIEOBJ.BDM

file format not supported

checked BDMV using "show package contents" and the above files exist, although the "CLIPINF", "PLAYLIST" and "STREAM" folders seem to be empty.

but then again, i'm not sure i know what i'd be looking for in each. has anyone else come across this or have a solution? it's simple enough to import the footage from M4ROOT>CLIP, but i've been told that AVCHD is a simpler import method.

premiere pro v12.1, Kentos

macOS Sierra 10.12.6

i can't update as i am mid project and have already had enough 2018/2019 issues between premiere and AE

    That is correct, they are not video files but auxiliary files.

    Importing media files into Premiere Pro

    Are you not seeing any mts files in the project window?

      there aren't any MTS files, either within BDMV or within M4ROOT...or anywhere, for that matter

      If, in the Media Browser, you navigated to the top of the  camera card directory and, without drilling down in the camera card directory, clicked on import - you should have gotten all the eligible files off the card imported into Premiere.

      As Ann Bens​ has stated, there are files that are in that directory structure that are not used nor needed by Premiere and they are not imported. The dialog box is just letting you know that.

      thanks. did that with a clean project and got just mp4 and jpg files, so i guess that's the way it was shot.

      i'm still coming to grips with Premiere so i'm grateful to you and Ann Bens for helping my understanding
