Greetings:
I have been using Adobe Premiere CS5 for quite a few years now, successfully. By that I mean that I am just some schmoe that like to edit his family home videos. I use Premiere for the editing and Encore to assemble it all into a nice BluRay with menus and all that. That's all I do and all I will ever do.
I am thinking about upgrading but I have run into this "Creative Cloud" thing and it is not clear to me what I would get if I went for it. I don't see Encore mentioned anywhere and all I want to know is:
I am looking at the "Single App", $19.99 / Month plan.
A) Will I still be able to do what I've been doing - edit my movies and make nice simple BluRays with menus
B) Will existing CS5 projects load?
Is Encore still with us? If not, is there an equivalent available?
Last of all: Is there any good reason I should do this? Are there more features?
Please explain this to ma like I am 4 years old.
Thank you,
Mark

It is my understanding that the single application subscription to Premiere Pro CC allows you to install previous versions. The earliest version available is CS6, which is the last version that comes with Encore. Encore is "end of life" and will not be updated, and is no longer officially supported. You can install Premiere Pro CC, and also Premiere Pro CS6, which will install Encore.
Yes you can still make Blu-rays as before. Encore CS6 had some improvements, but you will probably not notice them.
If you're using Dynamic link, you will not be able to do that (unless using PR CS6). But it is easy to avoid that even if you were using it before.
You may or may not be able to open Encore CS5 projects with CS6. I usually had good success. Keep a backup of your old system.
This is the link for info re using Encore CS6 with CC:
http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/encore-cs6-installed-cc.html
You must install the library separately. See the link on that page for instructions.
And, the link on that page to the "using" Encore with CC tutorial (Using Encore CS6 with PremierePro CC « DAV's TechTable) is broken. It is here:

Hi Stan:
Thanks for your response. I just wanted to clarify: If I were to only use the Creative Cloud apps and not install any of the legacy CS6 apps, would there still be support for building BluRay menus similar to Encore? Better than Encore, perhaps?
Thank you,
Mark

No. Adobe lost the licensing rights to the authorcore used in Encore, and that was the end of disk authoring for Adobe. Still works well for most users, meaning as well and not as in the past.
But many users are using Encore alongside the CC apps.

Wow. That's kind of a big deal, isn't it? A video editing "creative suite" that can't produce disks?
Adobe doesn't find that problematic?

You may also need to update your OS to run the latest versions and this may or may not affect running CS5 if you were to choose to keep that installed. You could try the trial version first to "kick the tires" and make sure you're happy with the options. Assuming CS5 and CC2017 will run side by side (I only gone as far back as CS6 and CC2017 on the same workstation), you could edit in the latest Premiere and author in the other Encore.
While many of us still use both Blu-Ray and DVD-Video, the world has moved on to "on demand". Although, I must admit, I myself only did two Blu-ray project last year (infomercial playing at a movie theater chain) and one DVD (forensics video for an attorney).

Yes, a big deal. But what we believe is that Adobe's option was to invest its programming resources into building a DVD/BD authoring resource from the ground up. Just not going to happen.
Encore is not available as a trial: licensing issues again.
No need to consider CC and EN CS5: Once you go CC, you can use EN CS6.
More I didn't add before: CS6 added important improvements: 64bit, BD chapter playlists. It is not bug free, but no Encore ever was.
There is an bug fix update to EN CS6 that you should install once you get EN CS6 installed.
I agree with Warren that the world is moving on. Since you are using simple menus, you can just put your movies as mp4 on a USB stick and play directly on your TV. The "menu" is the list the TV displays.
But yes, I still want disks. I just digitized my father's 16MM films, most from the 1940's and 50's, and I immediately put them onto a BD disk for easy playback on the TV.

Hi Stan:
I might pull the trigger on the CC subscription, I just hope it tends to my other problem that I posted last night - you responded to that one too - thanks.
As for "on demand" and "thumb drives": No problem for me but these are home movies of my family and whatnot and I give these BluRay disks to my mother (83) and father (87), who really enjoy my movies but whom only recently have got the hang of disk players of any kind and have more recently learned that it is important to put the disks in the tray with the label showing up. Thumb-drive? Not going to happen.
Cheers,
Mark
