Encore pending loop

Community Beginner ,

Been using Encore for years producing hundreds of DVDs for clients. My process has always been to export out of PP as MPEG2-DVD and then import as timeline in Encore. This means I can adjust the bitrates accordingly to what will fit on the disc. All I need to do in Encore is transcode the audio file and it's good to go.

But over the last couple of days Encore has been stuck in an endless loop of "pending" all my m2v files with the progress bar repeatadley showing that it is indexing the files.

"Check Project" shows no errors and it definitely all fits on the disc.

Adobe Dynamic Link will not work either. Once I select the Premiere project, it hangs on "connecting to Dynamic Link server". I'm not sure if this is a recent thing and related as I rarely use the Dynamic link between PP and Encore.

Has anyone else been experiencing these issues?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2018 and Encore CS6 with no recent updates to have affected it.

>no recent updates

Does that also mean that you have not had an operating system upgrade between when it worked and now?

Correct. I'm on Mac (High Sierra 10.13.5) and have not done any recent updates. I do have CC 2019 but prefer to use 2018 for my projects. I'm trying it on my secondary machine (Windows 10) and it doesn't like the transcoded AC3 files that Encore on Mac created. I'm wondering if the transcodes my Mac are doing aren't compatible? Older media are working fine within the same project.

Dynamic link only works with same versions, so EN CS6 only dynamic links with PR CS6.

I don't think we have any reports of this issue. There is an issue with H.264 exports from PR/AME, but not same symptom anyway.

By "older media" working, you mean an m2v exported from PR at an earlier point? Using MediaInfo or similar, post screenshots (in "tree" view) of "new" and older files. Is there any difference?

In addition to John's questions, any other changes? Harddrive configuration the same? Mac issues have often resolved to permissions.

If you still have PR CS6 installed, I'd try an export from there (or 2017 if you have it). Or bring a Prores or whatever file into EN and let EN transcode. Just looking for hints at what could be wrong.

They look identical to me in Mediainfo. "Che-Jazz" is the working file, "Steps" is the faulty one. I've also included a screenshot of Encore to show you what I'm seeing.

The files were created only a couple of weeks apart. I shoot dance concert DVDs over the Christmas period. Over the last couple of months I've created 25 different DVDs all exactly the same process and would never (intentionally anyway!) upgrade in the middle of the busy season for my business.

I'm wondering if this is related to Encore CS6 hangs on file IO  and this is the Mac's way of dealing with it? I'll do some more tests and see what I come up with.

I don't have PR CS6 installed anymore. I'll try a ProRes and direct out of PR vs AME. I don't generally use AME as it tends to crash my system with large Multicam sequences like these.

Adobe Encore CS6 6.0.0.492

AME CC 12.1.1 (Build 12)

PP CC 12.1.1 (Build 10)

Exporting a shorter timeline of 10 minutes both via Premiere and Media Encoder are OK.

On import they show 'media pending' and then get to 100% and appear OK in the timeline. Although they do keep indexing under the progress bar whenever I switch program tabs or go between timelines in Encore. They will occasionally show the media pending thumbnail in the timeline while the monitor preview shows the actual file. They are also the only files that show media pending briefly on opening the project. I'm able to master an ISO file with these new files.

Very odd. The problem you linked ("Encore hangs") affected relatively few people on the "hang" but many on an error code 3 .ves - but this is a) Blu-ray and b) H.264/m4v files. It does affect Macs.

The media pending on switching might mean something, but I don't know what!

These are single layer disks (no layer break) I assume.

Yes, all single layer discs.

The problem DID start after I produced a Blu-ray Disc project and a dual-layer disc. That would be the only thing that has "changed" in the last couple of weeks. Although new Encore project files you wouldn't think that could possibly affect anything?

I agree that the BD projects should not create problems in new DVD projects. But your initial settings would be different if you did not return to DVD, so I would look carefully (maybe create a new test project). DVD as initial project type, PAL, DVD defaults,  etc.

Yep, been there done that. Definitely single layer DVD under build tab. The screenshot is a new dummy project.

I don't do BluRay and I've never had your problem, but maybe the idea below?
