How to Debug a Video File

When a finished audio/video file won't play in a media player and causes an invalid description error instead, does Premier have any ability to debug that file, i.e. find the problem and fix it?

well, not really like you are hoping for …

you have to say how you created the video and if possible use 'mediainfo' (tree view ) to get specs of the video and tell what they are or show screenshot ...

After you know what you have ( your source video info ) you can maybe figure out how to 'fix' it somehow..

but without info from you nobody can guess I don't think.
