Hi Guys,
Im using prem pro 2017 v 11.0
Seq settings Sony XDCAM EX1080i (HQ) The output does have to be interlaced.
I need to mix DJI drone clips that have been shot in progressive 60P, (59.94 P actually I believe) with interlaced clips 59.94i that I have taken on either my Sony PMW 500 XDcam or my sony fs5.
Im finding when I put the drone clips to the interlaced time line they are ok but once rendered out they fall apart.
Im hoping there is a simple solution to clip settings on Drone (progressive) clips to make them behave like interlaced clips.
The .mov drone clips look as good as they should as a clip.
Should I expect this mix of progressive and interlaced clips to an interlaced time line to look as pristine as I believe it should?
Is there a simply step by step solution for me on this?
Regards Rich

You should be able to do this without problems. In my experience, footage shot at 60p (59.94) looks very good in a 29.97 interlaced timeline (60i) - with each frame from the 60p material being converted to a field.
Can you post a screen shot of you sequence settings, and a screen shot or better yet post a sample of the artifact you are seeing when you export the drone footage from the timeline?

Try bringing everything into a 29.97 timeline. Your 60p drone footage you'll be able to achieve smooth motion with no cadence, and your 60i footage should be able to pull down into 29.97 timeline. Test by interpreting your footage to 29.97 before putting it into the 29.97 timeline. You can do this by right clicking on your clips inside Premiere and press interpret; a window will pop up asking how you would like Premiere to interpret your footage.

Thanks for reply.
Once I open the Modify-interpret window what settings should I apply to make it right for interlaced seq?
Options that I can change seem to be
Frame Rate
Pixel Aspect
Field order
alpha channel greyed out.

First, create your sequence 29.97 (Progressive). For now, just worry about Frame Rate and Field order when interpreting. When interpreting make your Frame Rate 29.97 (Progressive) for "both" and see how that looks for your interlaced footage.

Doing so will make all your source footage progressive, including the footage that was shot progressive with the Sony cameras, is that what you want?
Step by step to preserve interlacing:
Create an interlace sequence by dragging an interlaced source clip from one of your Sony cameras to the timeline and when prompted, match the sequence settings to the source clip.
Add the DJI footage directly to the sequence - Pro will deal with the conversion from 60p to 1080i.
If you want to take advantage of your higher frame rate from the DJI to make smooth 50% speed: duplicate a/the source clip, and right click on the duplicate. From the drop down menu choose Modify > Interpret Footage and set the clip to Assume the frame rate of 29.97 and make the clip interlaced by specifying Upper Field dominance:
When you have you sequence complete, export and choose an interlaced format for broadcast, you can also create progressive exports for web use, etc.

Does your final output need to be interlaced or progressive?

Your Drone footage will most likely look funky if you are going from Progressive to Interlaced even if you are converting it to a new frame rate. You can try different frame blending techniques, but they probably won't be the quality you want. I'm not sure where you will be distributing this, but I recommend going from "Interlaced to Progressive". 60i looks better going to 30p opposed to 60p or 30p going to interlaced.
