Long Delay on every edit - CC 2018

Community Beginner ,
Oct 19, 2017 Oct 19, 2017

I've got a sequence that was working fine under CC 2017. After the upgrade, there is a 5-6 second delay, with spinning wheel, every time I try to do an insert or overwrite edit from the Source monitor into my sequence.

Is there a setting that may have reset upon the upgrade, or is this a bug?

At the moment, this is unusable, so I will be forced to downgrade back to CC 2017.

I don't see any appreciable delay under Windows 10 Pro (1703).

Having this issue on 4 of our company's 5 editing PC.

3 of them using i7-2600 / gtx 470 / gtx 1070 / gtx 1060

all of them have 16gb ram and 512gb SSD.

the 4th is a Xeon ES-1620

Quadro m2000

16gb ram

512gb ssd

heres a video of whats happening since we all updated to cc 2018 this morning.

We have a 5th pc that doesnt have the issue. its a i7-7700k / gtx 1080ti / 32gb ram. everything works good on it. the other 4 have the issue.
The drag and drop way of inserting to a timeline still works as usual. but any overwrite / insert shortcut OR the button does create a huge delay...

Thanks for posting the video. That looks exactly like what was happening to me, even though I'm on a 2013 Mac Pro running OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan).

i have somehow resolved the issue tweaking the preferences.

dont ask me exactly what worked out. but its not happening anymore. heres what i did in the preferences tab:

audio hardware
-changed default input to none.

device control

-changed the default device to none (altho it does come back to DV/HDV even no hardware is plugged)

Media

-checked Enable proxies (probly not what fixed the issue, but i did anyway)
-unchecked Enable accelerated intel h264 decoding

Media cache

-changed the default path to something else than the C drive (obviously, dont ask me why i didn do it earlier)

-deleted the cache

----- i also manualy went to delete both media cache at: C:\Users\Renderman\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common

Memory

-i think this is what caused the issue altho it feels weird. i changed the memory option from PERFORMANCE to MEMORY.

(i didk replace it back to performance after the issue was resolved tho...)

ill try to change those settings 1 by 1 on the other PC at my work to see what clearly fixed the issue and report back in 20 min.

give it a try see if it works for you.

ok i tried the memory thingy on a second PC, it didn fix the issue.

i then went ahead and changed every other thing i just mentionned. The issue was SOMEWHAT resolved. i could still sence a bit a delay but it was much much much much faster than the 10 sec delay it had before i started.

i wish you the best of luck and hope someone will step up and take this issue seriously...

Thanks for the update on your experiments!

Since I'm on a deadline and don't have time to fiddle, I'm going to stick with CC 2017 for now and hope it is fixed in the next patch.

Yeah I'm having no luck so far getting rid of this... It would be nice to get an indication on whether it's a bug that needs squashing or that Adobe is working on a fix? I was really excited for shared projects and multiple open projects but for now I'm going to have to go back to CC 17.

=(

Still not fixed as of 11/15/2017 -- My projects were all working fine, and now with Adobe CC 2018 I have that very long delay when performing and insert/overwrite.  Although it only happens when I use the keyboard shortcut, or the icon above the timeline. When I drag and drop the clip into the timeline there is no delay. COME ON ADOBE!!!!! This needs to be fixed ASAP.

It sure would be nice to get some kind of response from Adobe here....

Literally any other editing program is looking way better at the moment. I need 3 point editing and now I'm stuck with half 2018 and half older projects. What a mess. Thinking of starting new projects in FCP as at least it works.

The delay only happens in projects created in the older version of Premiere.  So if you’re editing an old project that has been converted for CC 2018, simply create a new project, and then import the old project into the brand new one, and you won’t have the delay anymore.

This is not true, it happens to me even when creating a new project from scratch. Switched back to Premiere CC 2017 and have had zero issues with the same footage.

Yeah, not surprising. I was pretty sure that was one of the first things I tried when I first ran into the issue but I couldn't quite remember... bummer.

I have a project coming up soon where the rest of team will be editing on CC 2018, so I need to figure out a solution!

Hopefully they'll fix the issue soon... It really makes the program un-usable.  Until then, try to stick to cc 2017, it's been a breeze with my current project, now I just want my two wasted days back of trying to figure out a solution to 2018.  Let us know though if you figure out another solution to try.

Here's your workaround:

The delay only happens in projects created in the older version of Premiere.  So if you’re editing an old project that has been converted for CC 2018, simply create a new project, and then import the old project into the brand new one, and you won’t have the delay anymore.

With that in mind, if you open an old project that asks you convert it to the new version, DON’T DO IT… Cancel that conversion and create a NEW project in which to import the old project.

Interesting. I don't think I have time to test that scenario on my system this week, but I'd be interested to hear if that clears up the problem for some of the other reporting it on these forums.

thanks for the info!

A reminder to everyone wrestling with this bug: don't forget to submit a bug report to Adobe.

We need to make sure it's on their radar so it gets fixed in the next patch!

I just sent in a complaint.  This is ridiculous.  I'm editing P2 footage that is just 1080p.  Not even 4k...  No one has found a fix?

Nope. The only fix I've been able to use is reverting back to PP 2017 and everything works like a charm.

Hey guys,

Has anybody ever gotten around this?

I've been on to Adobe about ten times trying to get it fixed and nobody has been of any use at all! Downloading the latest update now in the hope that it'll be fixed. I was told that it was because I was using a network drive, which is nonsense, because everything was fine (and still is) is 2017. I was ASSURED that if we upgraded to team projects then it would be fixed and still getting the same issue... Making proxies of the files doesn't seem to work either... so I've just downloaded the latest update... hopefully it'll work. If it doesn't, we're going to have to switch to Avid... and nobody wants that!!

Updated to the new patch and it has finally been fixed!!

Although, very disappointing that in about 2 months and 10 or 11 calls to customer service, I was, sometimes quite patronisingly, told that it was a problem on my end, causing HUGE stress in our office as we're coming very close to the end of an edit and not ONCE did they admit that there might just be a bug in the system. Now they release a patch and it's fixed... how very mysterious. Not.

Does anyone solve it?  I have similar problem of 1 of my computer.  One with Xeon E3-1231 v3, H97 MB and 32GB DDR3 suffer this problem heavily.  It start from insert anything, video, audio, picture, it start to get 10s+ delay on every menu.  The other with i5-6500, H170 with 32GB DDR4 does not have this issue.  My question is posted here.

I ran a WPA check and found Premiere was choked on some mysterious MsgCheck Delay.  Here is my WPA screen capture.

Premiere+Pro+Analytic+1.PNG

I've post this questions for weeks and does not see anyone from Adobe to solve it.  I've tried everything mentioned above with no luck.  Win10 is new install, everything project, element is newly created.  Does anyone have any solution?
