Media suddenly won't relink -- cross hatched wont go away after unlinking

We are trying to output a network show and at the last moment, one of the clips went offline, the time code shifted, and will not come back online in the sequence no matter what.

The clip remains cross hatched when linked or unlinked and the video and audio cannot be returned to the sequence.

1) We've gone back to the original sequence, and it works. The cross hatches are gone and the media is there.

2) We've tried re-linking to both the proxy and HD video and although it was online earlier tonight, it won't come back now no matter what.

3) The cross hatches do not disappear no matter what.

4) Of course, we've also gone back to all of the backups of the project and every single one is cross hatched.

Looking only in the bin for now, is the clip in question online or offline?  Can you load it into the Source Monitor and play the entire clip?
