Premiere Pro Guided Workflow: Import VFR Video Files

Question

Import the footage as you would any other standard file. See this article for how to do that.
See this FAQ for details on handling VFR footage. It may answer some of your questions about some slight changes you may need to make to clips upon importing them.
If the file is too difficult to import, consider transcoding the file in Media Encoder to ProRes, DNxHD/HR, or GoPro Cineform.
If the file will not import via Media Encoder, consider using the free applicaton Handbrake or another application prior to importing.

Here's a video tutorial about how to transcode "skipping" iPhone files to DNxHD in Media Encoder. The tutorial starts at around 3:35. It shows you how to make a preset so you can transcode all your clips easily.
