Premiere Pro Guided Workflow: Import VFR Video Files

  • Import the footage as you would any other standard file. See this article for how to do that.
  • See this FAQ for details on handling VFR footage. It may answer some of your questions about some slight changes you may need to make to clips upon importing them.
  • If the file is too difficult to import, consider transcoding the file in Media Encoder to ProRes, DNxHD/HR, or GoPro Cineform.
  • If the file will not import via Media Encoder, consider using the free applicaton Handbrake or another application prior to importing.

Here's a video tutorial about how to transcode "skipping" iPhone files to DNxHD in Media Encoder. The tutorial starts at around 3:35. It shows you how to make a preset so you can transcode all your clips easily.
