Premiere Pro v14.6 crash when add track in timeline sequence

Correct answer by SergiHV | Community Beginner

Moderator note: This issue is usually triggered by hardware devices, for example, any control surface. If you have a color grading panel, jog shuttle gizmo, Loupedeck, audio mixer, or similar hardware, try unplugging it or disabling it. No hardware control surfaces? An After Effects user found that certain software plug-ins act like control surfaces, so they may need to be disabled or removed, as well.

In the end they have helped me from Adobe. Here are the steps to follow to solve the problem:

Step 1: Open Run command (Windows key + R key) -> type appdata in the box and enter -> go folder to Roaming folder -> go to Adobe folder -> there you will see the premiere pro folder, please rename this folder to premiere pro.old

Step 2: In this same list (where the premiere pro folder is) you will see the folder named common -> go to common folder -> there you will see three folders by the name of media cache, media cache files and peak files. Please move these folders to trash and then let me know.

Step 3: Please open C drive -> then go to documents folder in left panel -> go to Adobe -> there you will see the premiere pro , please rename this folder to premiere pro.old

Same thing is happening to me. Doesn't matter if I move a clip up to a new track or even if I create a new track (video or audio) from the drop down menu, it crashes. I have version 14.6 as well. Guess I need to downgrade too....

I was on 14.6 and was having the same issue. Every time I tried to add a track to my timeline, Premiere would just hang. I also had the issue with hearing the audio play while it's hung and not able to stop it.

I reverted back to 14.3.2 and can confirm that adding tracks works just like it's supposed to. I'm hesitant to try the BETA so I'll have to wait for that.

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-30-seconds-in-premi...

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/...

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

what are your source properties?  if they're mp3's or another heavily compressed format, you might want to convert to an uncompressed format like aiff or wave files...  48k 16 bit is probably the minimum setting...

how can we help you if you don't answer our questions?  what are your source properties?  if you need help finding the properties, ask, don't ignore the question...  and you might tell us your sequence settings.  figuring this stuff out remotely is not easy but if we approach this in a methodical manner we can usually figure out what's going on.

Thanks for this thread.
I also had this problem, and narrowed the issue down to one of my workspaces - when I cleared my workspaces it was fine, but when I set up my workspace the way I like it (which isn't even anything fancy), it would crash when adding in audio. The 'problem' workspace didn't even need to be active, it just didn't like being an option.
So the solution for me was to just use the default workspaces but this didn't seem acceptable as I have specific places for specific panels.
Anyway, long story short, I too rolled back to 14.5 and it seems to have fixed things. I'll submit a bug report to Adobe and hopefully it'll get fixed in 14.7!

I SOLVED IT!!!!! At least for my self. I use a Loupedeck CT and even after Premiere Pro 14.7 released today, the adding track bug was still there. I disabled my Loupedeck CT and it works fine! I guess Premiere Pro is talking with the plugin very well. Hopefully this will be fixed soon so we don't have to keep disabling and enabling control surfaces.
