Text and Titles blurry and blocky after export

Hi

Whenever I add text and titles to my Premiere Pro timeline it always appears sharp/crisp until it's exported. However, once exported the edges of the text/titles appears to be 'blocky', even while static, which then strobes with any introduced movement.

I do not have a separate monitor to check so can only go by the viewing window on my MacBook. I had this problem on my pervious FCP platform and it has now followed me to Prem Pro CS5.5 ...

I fully 'green line' render my timeline before exporting and I have searched for an absolute age but cannot find a/any simple fix for this frustrating problem.

Appreciate any advice or instruction that will finally free me from this problem.

I am currently having this problem as well.

To some of the people who responded.... please don't use a forum as a place to shame someone. The whole reason we're asking questions here is that we DON'T know the solution, and we're looking for someone who has been in the same situation and found the answer. Like bromleyboy77 said, if you can provide your export settings, perhaps that will help us find a solution. Whoever said that we wanted to be professionals in the industry of filmography? If we were experts would we BE on this forum? Not necessarily. Personally, I'm working on a one-time work project and happen to have some experience with Premiere so I got assigned it. I'm not trying to edit Jurassic Park here. It's a simple export of a video with titles, and I need it to be clear.

The question is whether or not there's something specific we're supposed to be changing in order to make the titles come out nicely. The rest of the video is fine; it's just the captions that are bad...

I used this tutorial to export my video, but even if I export at the Premiere default, the captions are fuzzy. As a note, I usually increase the size and quality to be greater than what he suggested. Any ideas?

Size to what?  Quality to what?

What size and frame rate is your sequence?  Your export?

Did you use the Pr title tool to generate the captions, or did you import the text/graphics?

Are the caption clips (whether Pr titles or imported graphics) placed on whole pixel values in the frame? (Check that by examining the Motion intrinsic effect.)

There are so many possible variables that detailed questions and answers are the only way to narrow it down.

I have a tutorial on my web site that covers editing screen recordings so that the text stays sharp.  It's for an older version of Pr, but the concepts are still relevant.  NB: I don't cover exporting because as I explain in the video, that would take hours and hours to cover the many different ways you can end up with blurry text because of a mistake in export settings.

I had this problem and doubled the size of my title text, then shrank it to 50% scale on the sequence stage. The text came out much sharper. Seems like a good easy fix when talking about titles.

It's 2017 and this is really happening and nothing to do with export setting or mismatch sequence settings etc. Top is rendered and bottom is unrendered. I'm a professional and have spent months tying everything to work this problem out. Please adobe everybody needs this fixed.

Check your default render codec (not your export codec).  You can find it under Sequence>Sequence Settings>Video Previews.  Odds are you'll find the problem there, whether in the codec choice, its configuration, the frame size or the available processing options.

And unless you really need to render any or all of your timeline because of a load of video/audio effects that can't be played back in real time on your machine(s), I heartily recommend you never render your sequence before exporting.

If the text isn't a light colour, you could switch the Opacity Blend Mode to Multiply, or to be on the safe side, set it to Normal and this should work.

I found that the issue in my case was to do with h.264 and HEVC (h.265) exports, I believe it must be some sort of compression method in a high contrast situation that caused it, for me it is white text on teal caused the issue. I solved this by doing a Pro Res export and compressing in media encoder afterwards - I suspect there may be better ways to do this but that seemed to reduce (although not completely resolve) the issue for me

I am working on some really small virtual conference videos (about 600px300px) I found this definitely helped out with the blurryness of the text. Export as high as possible to start then save back down to H264 afterwards.

I think Bromley is probably doing new things with his life now. He's moved on.

I'm running Premiere Pro CC 2017.1.2.  Seems like this problem has been around for a while.  In a recent project I had Ai. (adobe illustrator) files and Titles (created in premiere) inside of a single project.  The Ai graphics were crisp and clean on export, but the titles made in premiere were jagged.  I tried changing sequence settings, export settings, and font settings.  Nothing changed.  Titles made within the program are going to match whatever the sequence settings are.

I found that nesting the individual titles or graphics produced in premiere cleaned them up in the program monitor as well as in export.

tldr:

Nest jagged or blurry text to clean it up

Select the offending Text in your timeline, right click it, click Nest. .name your nested sequence and click ok.  That's it.

I found a solution to this Issue, at least this was my problem: The Sequence Settings mismatched the export settings...my Sequence settings called for interlacing and my export for progressive scan. Just changed my Sequence setting to progressive and it worked.

I think some people might have tried to over cook this a little.

Maybe Adobe should have stepped in a little sooner, but I have just spent 10 mins altering a few settings (since spotting this thread) that seem to have worked in my case.

The Opacity Blend Mode is set to Dissolve as a default, change this to Multiply and the issue goes away.

I am by no means an expert on this, I graduated as an Animator 15 years ago, therefore I have worked in Design and Marketing ever since!

Hope this helps people with a similar issue!

Just realised my reply is pretty daft if you have white text on a coloured background, the setting then needs to be changed to Normal.

I had the issue with the red text on dark blue titles. The problem was solved when I stopped exporting in h264 and started exporting the master in h265 or quick time. H264 just works badly with some kinds of titles. For me the problem had nothing with timeline settings.
