Volume "reset parameter" sets level to +9dB

My office has recently upgraded to Premiere Pro 2020. In the effect control panel, clicking the "reset paramter" button on either the Volume or Channel Volume control sets the audio level to +9.0 dB, not 0.0 dB as it had in previous versions. Is there a default or a preference that can be changed to this resets to 0?

I tested here and see the very same thing as well and notice that the Channel Volume parameter is affected as well. Seems like a pure bug to me. I am not aware of any Preference setting for this. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a solution.

I'm really not a fan of this change. Sure, most sound recordists these days agree that digital recording levels should be set to somewhere between -12 and -9db, so resetting the level to +9db in Prem should in theory bring that level back up closer to 0db. But the majority of the recordings that I receive are around -6db so the quick one click reset in Prem almost always results in audio clipping.

Even worse is when you're working with music that you know is always produced to peak at 0db. To mix music under voice, I always set the music track level low enough for the voice to cut through, then I add keyframes to swell the music between the voice clips. This used to be simple when you could reset keyframes to 0, but now, you have to input 0 manually.

So I have suggested adding a user defined "reset parameter" value in the audio preferences.

On Jan 17, Matt Stegner replied to my bug report with this:

"This is a bug that is fixed internally and will be fixed in the next patch."

So I guess we can consider this one answered.

I did a test again here and it seems to have been fixed. So updating from 14.0 to 14.0.1 is the solution. 🙂
