Why are these video effects obsolete?
And what are the replacements?

Adobe has moved on, doesn't want to work on them anymore, but leaves them in there for previous project compatability.

Why were those relegated to "obsolete" status?
Because for every one of them, the code and structure was old. Because there were vastly better ways of doing the same things.
And the new code, process, and or structured effects had been added to the application already.
They kept the "obsolete" effects around simply to be polite to the users still wanting to use their old way of doing things.
Look at say how many of the old color things do NOT have a lego block denoting being a 32 bit float effect let alone GPU accelerated. Why anyone uses those is beyond me.
