Won't Import Full Audio from Video Recording.

I've seen many people encounter this issue and I've read and tried all the solutions I've found but none of them have worked for me.

When I import a video/audio clip (MP4), it won't import the full audio clip for that video but will instead cut off the audio completely about a quarter of the way through, every time on every video.

The frame rate on EVERY video I do is consistent @ 30fps or 60fps depending on what I'm doing, and I've checked to make sure.

I've cleared Premier's cache file multiple times, renamed it, etc.

I've restarted my computer to clear RAM cache.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled Premier Pro to no avail.

I've done everything that I've seen everyone else suggest that's worked for them and the software JUST ISN'T WORKING.

This of course is making me very upset and I can't get any work done if this isn't fixed.

Windows 10 Professional

Premier Pro 11.0.2(47) Build

Intel 4790K
32GB RAM
M.2 SSD

I don't understand what the issue could possibly be and if I don't have my editing done by tomorrow then I'm officially behind.

PLEASE help.

Hi CouchChroniclerJon,

Sorry that audio is not importing. You've done the first thing I would have suggested in deleting cache. It doesn't sound like that's working for you.

First I want to say that my captured audio and video has recorded and premier has taken the captures without any issue for >50 episodes of stuff, and the capture comes out great before hitting premier. I don't think the elgato is the problem here.

Have you changed any of your workflow for this round? In general, almost all screencapturing scenarios generate media that is problematic for Premiere Pro to handle, usually because of the non-standard frame rates (usually variable). Things can get stickier depend on what you do. Longer captures fall farther out of sync, for example.

Your issue can occur when you've captured your audio channels in certain ways with these screencapture programs. They could be all mixed (or to be a bit more precise "muxed"), and need to be "unmuxed" before import into Premiere Pro.

Could that possibly be the issue? If you can hear audio in VLC but not in Premiere Pro, and you've already trashed media cache files, that is a sign of muxed audio. You can do a search for a free program which can help you with this issue.

Is there another capture device you'd recommend that works for you?

Recent testing with my staff indicates that OBS is the software which can provide constant frame rates. It sounds like your device may work, but please check the audio capture settings and perform some tests. If it still doesn't work, give OBS a try, it's free.

Thanks,
Kevin

I was able to demux the audio using VLC

Open VLC > Media > Covert/Save > Add > Browse for Your File > Select Convert > Under Convert Select "Audio - MP3" > Name Destination File > Start

Importing both of them separately let the whole audio file import without dropping off.

Thanks, Kevin-Monahan and everyone else involved in this thread. I've learned something today.

This is a possible work around. Have you tried converting the mp4 through Media Encoder to a less compressed format (such as DNxHD***) and make sure the audio ends up as a LPCM format inside the converted video file.

However you may encounter the same issue, as you have previously imported this file into an Adobe product. So rename the mp4 to something different first.

What camera is being used to record the media?

It's screen capture video - I'm using an Elgato HD60 Pro

Ah.  Step 2b should solve this.

MP4 is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing - For Windows Internet Explorer press the PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard, and then do CTRL-V to paste the screen print from the clipboard into a forum message
