Question

RH2022 how to create a title page for a PDF document

Using RoboHelp 2017, I was able to specify PDF & Word outputs; the PDF automatically had a cover page and a ToC. I can't figure out how to do this in RoboHelp 2022.

Can anyone?

thanks in advance,

Lon

    TOC

    • First of all go to your TOC and see if the icon on the right is like this one. That is an online TOC. It will likely be called Default unless you have renamed it. The name does not matter.
    • If you don't have a TOC with a book icon, right click the online TOC and create a duplicate, that way the contents are the same. Name it Book to help. It will now look like this.
    • The icon tells you that whilst it is named Book, it is in fact an Online TOC. Right click the Book TOC and select Properties. Select Book and then click Save. The icon will change to a book icon.
    • Click the icon shown below and select TOC.
    • You should now see this.
    • Now remove whatever TOC you added.

    CHANGING LINE COLOUR

I pretty much covered that earlier in this thread.. https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/rh2022-how-to-create-a-title-page-for-a-pdf-document/m-p/15217344#M156958

    • Go to Outputs > Templates.
    • Double click the PDF template that you are using and go to Stylesheets.
    • Double click the layout CSS and follow the instructions I gave you earlier.

It just occurred to me, are you using a Book TOC rather than an online TOC and is the TOC in the Front Matter section?

Apologies re the line colour, I misled you. In the template you need to go to layout.css in the Stylesheet section. Double click that.

As you can see the default Border Colour is set by the Theme. To override that, click the square to open the palette and then set your colour. I was able to set that to green.

As to the bleeding, I would need to see your project. Can you share the project? If you can, then see the Contact page on my site and send the project as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the project direct.

If you cannot share it, then you will need to go to Support. I suggest for this one you need to go to Adobe Support. See https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. The email link tcssup@adobe.com is recommended as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.

First though, check your exact version. You have said 2022 but is that 2022.5?

    Hi, Peter!

Many thanks for your continued support and patience; I'm afraid I need a bit more granular assistance, as I can't find the option that controls the orange band at the top of the cover page, which I would like to change to green. Also, I'm unable to send you the project, so I'll take your advice and try Support. Regarding your following question, how do I check to see whether I've selected Online or Book ToC (I don't remember)?

For the colour part, see the image in the How to Set Up a Template section in https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp_Tour/rh2022/outputs/pdf_templates.htm. Double click the layouts shown on the left and they open in the editor.

I don't know what you have done to get what you show in the image you have posted. That doesn't look like a header bleeding down, more like a TOC. Look further down in my topic to Page Layouts.

    https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp_Tour/rh2022/outputs/pdf_templates.htm#:~:text=the%20setup%20required.-,Page%20Layouts,-Here%20you%20select

I wonder if you have have selected the wrong layout for one of the document sections.

Try creating a second copy of the template without any customisation and see if that fixes the issue.

    Hi, Peter!

I tried your suggestion of creating a new template without making any adjustments or customization, but got the exact same result: the ToC entries are huge and bleeding down into the page. I also appreciate your directing me to the screenshots on your web page, but I'm afraid I need a bit more granular assistance; I can find no way to change the color in the band at the top of the Front Cover, and am also at a loss as to how to include our company logo. Nothing I try seems to have any effect.

You create a topic and use that in the template.

Thanks so much for your help, Peter, but now I have another problem I can't figure out. I created a PDF using a specific template, but the topic headings are bleeding down into the topics. Plus, there is an orange band across the top of the Front Cover, which I would like to change to our special shade of green (lines also). This is what I'm referring to:

    any ideas?

    Thank you!
