Question

Marketing images

I recently had a batch of dove hunting images accepted. One of the images sold almost immediately and has sold numerous times since. The image is now the third image that comes up when you search for dove hunting on Adobe. Even though all of the other images I submitted are similar, none of them appear in a search for dove hunting until the sixth page. In the meantime, other images that appear on the first six pages when you search for dove hunting are images of sharks, scuba diving, Hungarian partridge, pheasants, skin diving, hunters shooting everything but doves, pike, foxes, bait balls, eagles, coral reefs, seals, coi, marlin, amberjack, fly fishing, cats and that is just on the first page! What in the heck do those topics have to do with dove hunting? If I was a prospective buyer in search of a dove hunting image and didn't see any dove hunting images after five or six pages I'd be gone. Dove season begins September across the country so there might be prospectiev buyers looking for dove huntign images. It would seem that if Adobe did a better job of editing and sorting images it would benefit Adobe and perspective contributors. This post may get flagged or my post deleted because I haven't figured out how to delete my name and e-mail address from posts after several requests and attempts at asking how to do it. I can't just delete my e-mail address from my profile. I trust the community will find this post as constructive criticism that others have been equally frustated by.

In the absense of other search criteria, the last image sold is what usually appears first on search results.  It's no great mystery that successful sales drive more traffic to your content than unsold items.

Pretty hard to sell when accepted images don't come up in a search. Try it.
Search dove hunting and see what comes up!

Hi @Verbbaitum ,

I just did the search and see exactly what you're talking about. I believe most if not all the images are relevant. If you notice most of those images have something to do with hunting - animal hunting, human hunting or fish hunting. I suspect that the word "hunting" is included in at least some of those images with divers. There is something we did not explain.

There are times customers look for two unrelated subjects in one search. I do it sometimes to save time. For example, "dove", "hunting". The search engine comes up with both categories. I believe this is the case with your current search. The result comes up with two relevant search for the words "dove" and "hunting" instead of combination "dove hunting". You and a few others might have had the keyword phrase "dove hunting", so the algorithm does not learn it to be a category phrase. The more popular tags that the algorithm recognize might be "dove" and "hunting". These will turn up in a "dove hunting" search, but not necessarily high up in the search especially if those two tags do not fall among the first 10 tags

If you look for the more popular search phrase "bird hunting" you will get a totally different result. I've gone through the first 5 pages and the last page of that phrase tag and all photos were obviously relevant. It is likely the tags "bird" and "hunting" turn up in this category. If you had the tags "bird hunting", "bird" and "hunting" then your images would show up in this more popular search.

I hope this helps and that this explanation will suffice to put this subject to rest.

Best wishes

Jacquelin

Hi @Verbbaitum ,

When you search you should get images that have in their key-wording or indexing words that are complete or in part having the words dove and hunting. This sometimes turn up images that are out of their relevant categories. There are some times when for whatever reason incorrect indexing do take place that allows images to turn up in strange place. In truth nothing should turn up in a search except what you ask for. If its only one image for that search, one image should show up - no more. I struggled for almost an entire year 2020 to stop sanitation and other irrelevant images from turning up when I search for "plum tree". I had to give up. I just did a "plum tree" search and what I expect turn up in the search.

I suggest you send a tick to Adobe advising them of the issue with your dove hunting search. I'd suggest that you send them screen-shot of your search results.

Best wishes

Hi @Verbbaitum ,

No you are not. However, I believe there are some misunderstanding there that created the mix-up. See your post here

If you search for "dove hunting", with the search terms in quotes, you get only images that contain both of those words in the keywords. I would assume that Buyers know that so they can may their searches more fruitful.

I'm a potential buyer and I didn't. I'll search again. Thanks.

So I searched under "dove hunting." One page of images came up. None of
them were mine, including the one I've sold a half dozen times. ???

The combined keyword "dove hunting" does not bring enough selection to be presented to the searcher.

The algorithm the reverts to "dove" and "hunting" and similar spellings. This turns up everything with "hunt" and "hunting" and also turns up "dive" which is spelled similar to "dove". If these "wrong" photos have a view count or sale count which is higher than yours they will be presented. I admit, very frustrating. Try contacting contributer-support@adobe.com.
