Ue4 heightmap in materials

I was just wondering if anyone knows the correct way to setup the height texture for a material?

Everything I have found online hasn't worked or breaks my mesh by lifting faces out of place. In the screenshot added it should be adding bumps to the skin but instead moves the mesh.

It is frustrating that my models don't look like they do in substance once I get them into Unreal 4.

Hello @Slimwaffle,

Do the map works in another software than UE4? Also, are you sure the subdivision works as expected in UE4?

With that being said, I am clearly not an Unreal Engine expert, so I'll move this thread for a better community in order to give you a proper answer.

Best regards,

My workflow is from blender to substance and then to Unreal Engine 4. So I am unable to test in other programs.

I just thought I woul ask here as I haven't had good results looking in all of the unreal engine places.

I see the displacement is producing gaps in your cube. To fix this, could you try setting the tesselation type from PN triangles to flat tesselation?

@Aldo_3D Thanks for the help again mate. Using flat tesselation was helpful for filling in the gaps. But I wasn't able to prevent the lifting.

I have discovered the more displacement I ask for the more it lifts.

Also I figured out that the higher the poly count the better tesselation works. I attached a screenshot to show the difference between a low poly and a high poly cube.
