Image to Material Introduces Seams in a Seamless Texture

Hi!

I am facing a difficult problem with the Image to Material AI that I believe to be a bug.

I have completely seamless textures I am trying to create maps from, but whenever I run them through the AI, horrible seams are introduced by the software on the edges of the source texture.

Is there a way to fix this? Maybe a setting I am overlooking? I've tried tweaking all sliders in the AI settings, but this never goes away. I've included screenshots of what the seams look like.

Thanks!

Are there any fix/updates on the AI powered seam issue that comes with pre-tiled input images?

LoryAline, I am finally back after a long hiatus attempting to use Sampler to create materials from my seamless textures.  I see in your comment above that the tiling of seamless materials is supposed to be fixed, but when I import a seamless Diffuse and Normal map, then apply a Normal to Height filter to create a Height map, there is still a seam in the Height map.  I thought this issue was fixed.  Am I missing something or is it still not fixed years later?

Hi,
The seams bug of this topic come from Image to material (AI powered) filter.
So I think your issue is another one.

Can you report your bug with the support so we can investigate on it?

I'm wondering the same thing.  Please be honest...will this issue ever be fixed?  It's been going on for a veeeeery long time.  And frankly, this feature is the #1 reason why I have the Adobe Substance subscription.

LoryAline, I am using version 4.1.0 of Sampler and every time I import a seamless texture using Image to Material (AI Powered), it STILL introduces seams.  I thought this problem had been solved.  What am I missing here?

The problem is most noticeable in the Normal and Height maps.

Hi Mark,
Did you enable "Preserve Tiling" parameter in the properties?

If yes, can you share more details on your workflow and when you notice those atrefacts?

Thank you

I was not enabling Preserve Tiling, so thank you for pointing out that important detail!  However, there is still a subtle seam problem with both the Normal and Height outputs.  It is noticeable in the outputs, and particularly pronounced when adding a polished Metal Finish on top of the material.  I am happy to send you my file.  Which file (or files) would you like?  And since they're bigger than 47 MB, how shall I send them?  Thanks.

LoryAline, I'd like to send a Zip file via Dropsend.  To do so, I need an email address so I can send the download link.  Is this feasible?  Also, I'm not sure how to send you a private message, if this is required.

Hello @Mark S. Johnson,

To keep everyone updated on the subject, the 4.2.0 is now available, and big changes come along, including a new AI powered version of Image to Material!

Therefore, the "seam" issue encountered shouldn't occur, and the behavior has been greatly improved. You'll find a detailed tutorial on how to use it there.

Best regards,

Cyril Dellenbach (Micro) | QA Support Artist | Adobe
