The lag speed could have to do with running low on ram/resources. If none of the other suggestions work, I would save and do a hard restart of the computer. Sometimes that just gives your computer a reset and it comes back strong.

I agree with resetting preferences, tools, and upgrading to the latest Photoshop. If none of these work, I would do a fresh computer restart and see if that helps.

Did you try unchecking Auto-Select the box at that top?

I agree with Jane and Francesco as well. The first thing I thought of was a touch tablet that has something on it. I would definitely check that first.

I agree. I was having similar issues. I had a Wacom tablet with touch-activated and there was a note small not book on it that was causing the weirdness.

Be sure to back up your files first, if possible. I had a similar issue this past winter. I lost all of my files that didn't already back up to the cloud.

I agree with mglush, lighting effects are memory hogs. You need to allocate more space to ram. Here is a link showing how to do this.

Hmm... I had a similar issue.
Below worked for me...
Let's try completely uninstalling Photoshop. Deleting preferences. Completely shut down your computer.
Restart it. Do a clean install.
Mine worked after I did this.

Have you tried deleting and resetting your preferences?
Photoshop > Preferences > Reset Preferences on Quit. Backup any customization first.

This is what I was thinking. A lot of time people print from the (first) print menu dialog box. I would check the setup or print properties button. I'm on a Mac so that button is usually bottom left in the print box.

I agree. To add to this, since you are new at Pbotoshop, ensure that you are working on what you intend to be working on. For example, ensure the mask is selected in your layers panel and not the layer. You will know which is selected because there will be a white outline around it.
