I am fully aware that Adobe does not "officially" support Media Encoder scripting through ExtendScript in the way they do for most of the other applications.  But it is possible: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2170163/is-adobe-media-encoder-scriptable-with-extendscript However, it only seems that the script can be run by opening up the ExtendScript Toolkit and manually clicking the green arrow which causes the script to run. Naturally, this is far from ideal.  For other Adobe applications, such as After Effects, the script can be run from command line in the following fashion:     "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC 2018\Support Files\afterfx.exe" -r  "script/path/here.jsx" (See here for a reference: Run .jsx File From Command Line Windows ) However, when trying the same thing for Adobe Media Encoder (replacing it with the appropriate path), no such luck.  Although the Media Encoder window becomes active, the script does not run. Another thought was to put `#target ame` at the beginning of the script and then try running it with ExtendScript directly.  When doing so, you get this window: Unfortunately, clicking "Yes" does absolutely nothing. The goal here is to be able to run my .jsx script for Media Encoder in some kind of automated fashion, without having to open ExtendScript and manually click on the green arrow each time.  Surely there's some way to do this, but apart from the methods I've tried above which don't work, I cannot think of anything.  What exactly is clicking that little green arrow doing, and is there any way to emulate that click from command line?  I'm willing to try anything to enable me to run this script completely automated. In extendscript, how can I check if a layer has a specific effect applied to it?  For example, suppose I want to check if a given layer has the "motion tile" effect applied to it.  Essentially, this is the pseudocode of what I want: var layer_number = 1; if (app.project.item(1).layer(layer_number) has motion tile applied) {   alert("It does!"); } else {   add motion tile effect to app.project.item(1).layer(layer_number); } Can somebody please help me translate this pseudocode into real code that extendscript will recognize for After Effects?  Thanks. ... I'm running After Effects CC 2014.2.0 on Windows 10. By default, some of the following items in the timeline panel are not displayed by default.  For example, see the "mode" and "key" columns I've pointed out in red in this image: I also don't have the columns in the same order as typical (I moved over the column containing the "solo layer" button, for example, to the right of the layer name instead of the left, which is the default). On another machine, I copied the entire %AppData%\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\13.2 folder over to a brand new install of this particular version of After Effects.  Believe it or not, all those changes that I had made to the timeline panel columns appeared! So this tells me that, somewhere in this folder, in one of these files, this information is stored.  However, does anybody know exactly WHICH file?  I see this entire list, but I want to know which one in particular contains this information: If you know the answer, please share, and also please share where you found this information; I don't see any documentation on this, and I'm really interested in knowing. ... I'm writing an HTML panel for Photoshop for personal use, and when a button is clicked, the following function in a .jsx file is called, and then EvalScript updates a text field with the path of the current open document. function getcurrentfilepath() {   return app.activeDocument.path.fsName; } But I run into problems whenever the button is clicked and there is no document open, or the document that is open hasn't been saved yet.  So in these instances, the text "EvalScript error." ends up in my text box.  See the image below: I would like to be able to control what text is returned whenever the error occurs.  So that means that I need to add code into my .jsx file so account for situations in which the app.activeDocument.path.fsName property is not valid.  So essentially, I need to do error handling.  But I'm not sure how to check if that property is valid.  So how can I change my function to return a different string whenever the app.activeDocument.path.fsName is not valid? ... Observe the following lines of code: #target Photoshop var joy = app.activeDocument.path; alert(joy); Test this when you have some file open in Photoshop.  For example, it outputs something that looks like this: /d/5)%20Projects/My%20Projects but I need it to look like this: D:\5) Projects\My Project Now, let me make this clear; I need it in EXACTLY the format that I showed immediately above.  I'm working on a Windows machine, and I need to return this filepath in the Windows format for my HTML panel so that the user has easy access to it.  I need it to be just a standard string that includes the spaces and doesn't add in those extra percent signs and twenties.  Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. This should be a fairly simple script, but I have decided to ask here because of my lack of experience.  The goal is to do a batch conversion of several thousand .eps files produced in an external application to .ai files, each of which are cropped in to remove all extra artboard space which is unused.  So essentially, I need it to do the following: Prompt the user to select multiple .eps files. Open the first .eps file. Remove the extra space by cropping (the same effect as going to Object -> Artwork -> Fit to Artwork Bounds) Save the current, modified document as an Illustrator file with the same name as the original file (but obviously the .ai extension instead of .eps). Close the current document without making changes to the original .eps file. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for the remainder of the files that were selected. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I could write a script to accomplish this.  Any examples would be greatly, greatly appreciated.  At the very least, help guide me in the right direction here.  Thank you so much. ...
