Yes. And the unwanted fonts appear in the Indesign font list in the Character menu anyway. One of them is the default when I want to find/replace fonts.

The problem is persisting. Indesign shuts down suddenly or won't respond. This happened today immediately after I performed the latest upgrade. I have to "repair" Creative Cloud almost daily. When I went to the Adobe site to download a fresh version I only saw the purchase option; perhaps I didn't look far enough. I have used the Cleaner, uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted preferences.

I am using four of the 30 plus Garamond Premier Pro fonts in an Indesign document. I have activated only these four. The entire family constantly appears in the character menu. How can I avoid the tedium of scanning past the unwanted fonts, and of having the wrong font appear as the default in "Find/Replace fonts"?

I used Creative Cloud Cleaner as suggested. When I shut down my computer, Indesign would not shut down, but vanished from the screen which froze. I only discoverered this morning that the computer had not rebooted properly. The attached has appeared almost daily. It still appeared after I removed and reinstalled everything.

Unfortunately I upgraded to Big Sur. However, the problem has persisted through several systems. Indesign also stops responding when I quit. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but I'll try the program you suggest.

InDesign does not respond almost every time I try to start it up. Yes, I've tried deleting preferences, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Several successive tries get it to open. This happens almost daily.
Also, Creative cloud indicates there are updates updates available. The The "Update all" button is grayed out. The indiviual butons do nothing when I click on them.

Many thanks. I was mistaken about the source of the font I was using and have replaced it with a font from Typekit (or whatever it's called now). I have used it many times before without this problem occuring, which is why I was confused.

I have switched as many fonts as possible to Open Source fonts from Creative Cloud; this is the only one that has this problem.

I used the Adobe Font Cloister Black, then saved the document as a PDF to show my editor. It was fine when I looked at it on my MAC, but when he saw it on his PC it didn't register properly. Why would this be? Should I anticipate a printing problem when it goes to the printer? I finally stumbled upon the filters in the Indesign Character menu, but am not sure how to use them. I was hoping to use the filters to avoid the useless locked system fonts that require endless scrolling, but now only a few display fonts are appearing in the filters. Are fonts automatically added as they are used within a document? Is it possible to add fonts before they are used? Why are only one or two favorites showing? How can I add to the favorites? Shouldn't all active fonts that are in the document appear in the filter? How do I "unfilter" if I need to? No luck finding answers to any of these questions in the Adobe "help" section.

Unfortunately it is a series of obscure fonts that Apple in its finite wisdom has put into the system, so it can't be deactivated. I'm still curious about how to scan down the list of fonts in Creative Cloud when there's no visible scroll bar.

After contacting the Apple community about how to discard or at least hide the unwanted system fonts, I got this reply: You can ask the developers of the software you use to not display them. Apple provided an API/Framework for them to use. I have no idea what this means or how to implement it. Does Adobe provide this service somewhere?

I think part of the problem is that these system fonts are appearing in the wrong section of the character menu. They should be down in the system fonts section, not the section of fonts I've actually used. Is there a way to manage the character menu? I see there's a "favorites" section which I was unaware of. Can I put the fonts I use most there, and then select from there only?

Unfortunately the fonts in question are within the Apple system, and are inexplicably required (Armenian? Really?). They don't appear in the "manage fonts." However, I'd like to know how to scroll down the manage fonts section when there is no scroll bar available.

How does one turn off unwanted fonts in Indesign? I have never activated the "Noto" font, yet there is an extensive list of its families in the character menu. It does not appear in Suitcase Fusion; it is as available listed in the Adobe Fonts in Creative Cloud. Is it automatically activated? Why? Scanning past useless fonts is an enormous waste of time.

Indesign is apparently open, but the program does not appear on the desktop. Nor will it respond if I try to force quit. I was able to "uninstall" and reinstall but it still doesn't appear. Why does this happen? I am using Mojave on a desktop MAC. Do I have to upgrade my whole system?

Uwe, thanks for your reply. Normally I would do exactly what you propose, but the font is not listed in the Find/Replace Fonts Replace With control. That's the problem: it's unavailable though activiated.

In desperation I deleted and reinstalled Indesign (all sorts of things were going wrong). I deliberately did not save my preferences. Now the P22 font Victorian Gothic, which was working with no trouble before I had to do this cannot be recognized. It does not appear in the available fonts list, though I've activated it in Suitcase 21.2.2 and restarted the program. It's the Open Source version, which I just purchased. I removed the older versions from Suitcase so it's the only one availabe, and as I said, it was working earliet this evening. The Suitcase plug in is installed. I'm using a MAC, with admittedly the Mojave system (no use for the apps for the more recent versions, and my screen saver won't work on them).

When I drag font families to the "add fonts" window nothing appears, so I'm not sure if they are there or not. Or, more recently, when I try to click "Done" nothing happens. Or the entire window is grayed out, as if it is inactive. Fonts I was successful in adding can't or won't show their previews, and are not active in InDesign even though they register as activated. Shouldn't they automatically appear there?

Is ID 2021 incompatible with the Mojave system on the MAC? 1. It won't open 2. It will not open documents I worked on previously 3. It will not respond to force quit 4. It vanishes from the screen but is still listed as open in the force quit window but won't quit I have repeatedly uninstalled the entire program, run a computer cleaning program to delete preferences (no, it won't work to hold down the various keys) and reinstalled. This gives me a brief respite to work on documents, but when I try to quit it won't. Am I forced to "upgrade" to the Catalina MAC?

I tried holding down the keys; that didn't work. I searched unsuccessfully for the preferences file, even after pasting the exact name supplied into the "find" bar. Also unsucessful in searching for InDesign Saved Data and InDesign Defaults as such. A lot of files show up, but I don't know what they are. Many are marked .xml.

I am using Indesgin 2021 on a MAC Desktop with the Mojave system. (Since I don't use apps, I prefer not to use Catalina). When Indesign is started it consistently stops loading. If I go to "Force Quit" it is not responding; if I force quit any document I was trying to open finally starts to open but the program quits. Or the program "loads" but does not appear on the screen. In this case Force Quit doesn't work and I have to turn off the power to the computer to "close" Indesign. I have replaced preferences, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the entire program. It still happens. I have various virus protections in place so I doubt that is the problem.
