I’ve managed to get close hacking with extend script but this looks like it would work. Adobe could offer something similar pretty easily - essential for conforming and handy for music reporting / archive ordering & reporting / checking speeds / frame rates / frame sizes etc. Basically a csv export (rather than have to pay a third party to parse the info from an xml)

Thanks Bruce, will give it a go. First project likely to be emulating a workflow I just did to conform a project edited with proxies. (If it’s not too tricky I can see a bunch of useful scripts I might create.) Something simple like: Create array “clipSources” For every clip in sequence: Get filename If not in clipSources - clipSources.push() list clipSources (I’d then copy that list to a file copying program to copy files, with folder structure, from backup to fast drives) Next stage might be an option to create EDL with handles to consolidate. (these are Sony XAVC files so project manager will only copy full files plus I have to tie up Premiere)

OK what I can do is use the timeline search and find frame rate contains 23 OR frame rate contains 29 - which gets me there for the most part. Also I just figured out that I can create a new bin and drag all the clips from the timeline into it - which is useful for identifying frame rates etc. Although this is a little dangerous as they are new instances of the clips - any modification of those clips does not pass through to the clips in the sequence. Thanks Ann but again that is a laborious work around (first requiring a smart bin to find all media in the project) that doesn't limit the colour to just clips in this sequence.

Thanks for the response Ann, sadly searching text by eye is a long-winded way in a long sequence - there doesn't seem to be a way to search for that text through the find window.

On a pc, with a sequence loaded in the source monitor, the up/down arrows jump between edits. On a mac the same shortcuts jump between items loaded in the source monitor (ie loads different clips) Is there a keyboard command on the Mac I can reassign to match pc?

Avid has great clip colouring options to show clips that are a different frame rate in the timeline. is there a method in PP to highlight clips that do not match the sequence frame rate? (eg “find all clips != 25 FPS”)

Presumably the clip sources (correct & incorrect) are named the same (eg C0001.mp4) but are in different folders? Can you right click on an incorrect clip & relink to the correct clip? If so probably going to be quickest to do this for all incorrect clip.

Search bins are the closest you’ll get to ‘custom sift’. They are cool, but Avid has s way ahead in this regard. adobe.com/go/wish to add your name to the feature requests

‘Timecode’ tracks for files are just a start value and a frame rate - every other value is calculated (start time + (no of frames/frame rate)) So theres no way (that I know of) for a file to have jumping time codes. (On tape the timecode is recorded as an audio track (LTC) and you *could* emulate that in a file but only some NLEs can read audio timecode & its a world of hurt.) For a true proxy workflow you’ll have to create a proxy for each file. For stringouts for viewing/logging purposes just add an adjustment layer on V2 with a timecode effect pointing to clips on v1

Been using this workflow lately and it works, for the most part. Sometimes have to relink a few files and run into problems occasionally where original files have only 1 or 0 audio channels (proxy ‘not matching’ errors). I renamed all the A7/Osmo etc files to be unique to avoid relinking issues. I used DNX LB presets that I rolled myself - with 4096/3840/1920 presets with 8/1/0 audio channels. Idea being that we could resize in offline & have a clue how image would hold up - in retrospect would have just gone for 1920. DNX was to enable encoding on PC to same format. I had them create ‘next to original’ - so I’d have a clue as to high res location when it came to online. To copy just the proxies for the offline station I used Free File Sync and used the filter */*Proxy* - which copies only files with Proxy in name and retains folder structure. Thus you link one proxy file on offline machine & rest relink. Test first!

Jochen there is no Avid style video/audio mixdown. You have to export then import & overcut. It’s pretty quick though (have ‘import to project‘ checked when you export and you already have the marks. Nesting is more akin to ‘collapse’ in Avid, but might prove an alternative to mixdowns on occasion.

If I understand you correctly... Avid has a function for this ‘Autosequence’ which is very useful when syncing cameras that have free running, but non-synchronised, timecode. put a feature request in (‘Autosequence like avid’) at Adobe.com/go/wish in the meantime you could use the avid trial to make your assembly then send to PP as an AAF, possibly via Resolve. or program a macro, having edited first clip in sequence, and assuming all clips are in one bin & sorted by timecode: 1. Match frame 2. Reveal in project 3. Arrow down to next clip 4. Load in source monitor 5. Clear in & out 6. Go to start 7. Tab to timecode 8. Copy timecode 9. Switch to program 10. Tab to timecode 11. Paste 12. Overwrite then repeat... good luck

Hi Jim I’m actually after a Conform list of used source files. I can then use a program to batch copy those file, with folder structure, to a fast drive for the Conform. (Not sure why iPhones capitalises conform!) Be great to be able to do it with timecodes and just copy relevant sections with handles, but current manual method works OK and has advantage of being a good archive of the show in case of future revisions

I've had to jump to Avid to get a 12 mono channel export - but surely PP can do this? Current settings - switching channel layout between mono and discrete both result in media-info reporting 1 stream of audio (containing 12 channels). Deliverable is 12 seperate mono channels.

Definitely can see a reason to update (rather than create multiple new) search bin. Came to this discussion from Ed’s media relatives query elsewhere. I rarely use media relatives but what I do use in Avid a lot is ‘set bin display - show reference clips’. With a bin containing 1 sequence it gives you all the relevant master clips, enabling sifting & sorting & checking/changing metadata.

When on lining a PP sequence is there a way/tool to strip out the source files used? Currently I’m having to export EDLs and parse the data therein. Why do I want it? To copy the required media from full res backups to conform. thanks

The annoyance for me, of PP extend vs Avid extend, is that you have to select the edit to extend first. So I don’t use it anywhere near as much in PP. But i think the way I get around your problem is to delete clip B before extending clip A

Sadly searches across whole project (well that is useful most of the time, obvs). 'Does not contain' is new - 2018 presumably. If you use Avid then Custom Sift is a very handy tool ('search within bin') - time for a trip to adobe.com/go/wish

Any way of saving particular combinations of open bin tabs to be able to toggle between say 'Cuts/Graphics' for adding graphics and 'Cuts/SFX' for adding sound effects (obviously I want much more complicated combinations than that!)?
