Yes I do this all the time. Trick is your sequence needs to be 'multichannel' not stereo & you can't change it after (although you can copy/paste from one to another). Just like FCP7 you can then set the outputs the timel tracks route to & they can be multiple destination (e.g. 1&2 and 7&8). You can route direct to master or output via sub-mixes if that helps. I find that working with that many audio outputs causes PPro to drop frames so toggle multichannel outputs (above master fader) to 2 when editing. When I get those drop frames I have toggle to 2 outputs & restart app to stop getting them). i switch back to 8 for file export PLUS you can't use 'match sequence' in the export settings - you have to manually set audio to multichannel (save a preset for reuse). ... Thanks for the idea but I am aware of copy paste. I'm more likely to be slipping by large amounts where the source is a long clip and I need to change the shot from within that source clip. At the moment the workaround is to set program track targets, select clip, match frame, shuttle around to find a new shot, 'replace clip from source monitor-match frame' Which does take longer to write than do! Plus I only do that when 'slip selected clip many' repeatedly doesn't get me there. So it's not a show stopper, but more attention to trim/slip/slide operations would be a big help. Similarly the program/source track selections could use attention: a. Autopatch - like Avid b. Deselect / Select all program tracks shortcuts c. Deselect / Select all source tracks shortcuts (Currently can only 'toggle', which is no good for macros, v&a sepeeately. Although I guess 'default patch' may be 'select all' ) d. Hi Kevin I find trim mode to be clunky & slow (I edit mainly with AVCI 100 footage) so tend to avoid it. I do use JKL a LOT in Avid, but they have better/faster means of getting into slip/slide/trim. The 'slip many' keystrokes work pretty well for scooting through footage, but sometimes I do need to jump minutes at a time. i have put the FR in - not for the first time I think. Thanks Jim, but typically I'm screening lots of rushes from previous programme and doing selects. Ideally I do just 'reveal in finder' and copying to raid before editing into timeline. Sometimes turnaroubd is tight and I just cut in from USB drive though. Which is usually fine, I render the timeline & use previews to export. But I would like to consolidate the files to the raid for posterity/neatness. Looks like they are used to editing 'Tetris style' with cam 4 on V4 etc i think you could possibly manage this (assuming 4xcams and that your Mcam edit is all on V1) a. Find & select all cam 4 clips in timeline, alt&up arrow to move to v4 b. Repeat for c3 to v3 and c2 to v2 c. Select all clips & 'flatten' (optional) Audio might prove trickier. Also I couldn't find a way of 'Finding' individual cameras in the timeline it doesn't search original clip metadata, only the metadata of the MCam sequence. And it won't find '[MC2]' for example. Thanks Warren, I do use Audition for background removal at times, I'll take a look at the leveller. Turnaround is usually too tight, and picture isn't licked until it airs, so there's not time for too much round-tripping. TBH the levels are good (there's often a soundie) and if it were live they'd ride levels a bit, use gating a bit, stick a compressor limiter on the dialogue mix and put up with a higher sound floor. I'm not doing an entirely different mix in the edit, but I can go back and fix. PPro is much better in this regard (sub-mixes, with effects & loudness radar & PPMs on the master bus) than avid. Also it's keyframing is better AND I can tweak it during playback! With my newly discovered command override & the keyboard shortcuts everything is pretty peachy. ... View more

Well they are not my recording techniques, but there's nothing wrong with them per se. Fact is that I *could* leave them both faded up for the most part, but the mix is much cleaner if the current speaker is set to a higher level than the non-speaker. Especially when they are speaking together. This is pretty standard fare for interviewer / interviewee situations, although easier to remove other track with deletion in a Q & A scenario.
