Hi Barb, thanks for the illustration. • I opened up the paragrah style options, selected hyphenation, and toggled the check-box on and off, and nothing changed. In Screen Shot 04 it is also turned on. • I created new paragraph style based on the one used in Screen Shots 01 1nd 02, and set first line indent to 0, and applied it as per Screen Shot 05 to see if anything change. Still not producing what you were able to produce. • Then I imported the paragraph style used in Screen Shot 03, applied it, and still no success. (!) (Driving me a tad nuts) Any other thoughts ? Please refer to attached Scree Shots 01 and 02. I have created a paragraph style for quotations used in margin text boxes. I do not understand why the word "the" (fourth word) in the sentence in Screen Shot 01 is not in the first line of text given how hyphenation is defined in the paragraph style - and how the style functions in other text boxes, e.g. Screen Shot 03. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

I have seen instances where facing pages in a book have the chapter title in a running header on the left hand page and a chapter subsection running header on the right hand page. I cannot find a resource with instructions - how do I do this? See image: Screen Shot 230729-01 The A2 master is for the chapter title (here "Section" means "Chapter"). The A3 master is for the chapter subsections (here "Opening" means "Subsection"). See image: Screen Shot 230729-02 The Section (Chapter) name is carrying over as desired from the first page of the file and appearing on the left hand page. However, it continues to show in the header on the right page even though the Master A3 right hand running header is set to the variable for "Opening". Is this because the "Opening text is on the left hand page? Is it possible to get the arrangement I would like ? Thanks in advance for assistance.

I would like to create a template for a document which will have an introductory page and a series of mini-chapters. I would like the introductory page to have its own running header, and each subsequent mini-chapter to have its own running header. I am not sure how to do this. Would I create a series of Master Pages (each with its own running header), one for the introduction and one for each mini-chapter, with each mini-chapter starting on a righthand page? If the text variable name for each required runnung header was different, could I still draw on a common paragraph style? Thanks in advance.

The file in question does not have any other sections, page numbering starts at 1, and Smart Text reflow is off. What I noticed, however, was that the bottom of the Pages/Links window that I had open on the lefthand side of the screen appeared to run on below the bottom edge of the monitor, leading me to think that there were, in fact, thumbnails for pages 46-49 in the window but that I just could not get at them. So I closed the Pages/Links window, reopened it, found that its bottom was now aligned with the bottom edge of the monitor and that I could now scroll down to the bottom of the thumbnails where I found 46-49. I selected those thumbnails as per standard OP, dragged them to the Trash Can, and they are gone gone gone.

Refer to Screen Shot 01 which shows that the document in question ends appropriately at page 45. Screen Shot 02, however, shows pages 46 and 47 exist (and, if I scroll down, I find that pages 48 and 49 also exist). How do I remove 46 - 49? Thanks in advance !

Ah, thanks so much, I had expanded the width of the panel substantially but not sufficiently - I had no idea that the column width could inadvertently become so wide and, therefore, could not figure where the warning symbols had gone.

Hi Barb, I had a version of this which you responded to on June 29, 2022. Back then, as soon as text was added toa page the chapter head showed up. Now, this: I have a chapter title header on the two pages of my master layout - see screen shot 01. It shows up fine until page 19 where it does not show - see screen shot 02. Instead I seem some kind of symbol - see screen shot 03. What has happened ? Thanks in advance.

Please see attached image: "Screen Shot - Not anchored". In this case the image on the left is not anchored and the text wrap applied to it works as expected on both text boxes. However, when I anchor the image as in "Screen Shot - Anchored" the text wrap affects the righthand text box but not the one on the left. How do I get an achored object to apply text wrap to both text boxes ? Thanks in advance.

Actually, I found I had both the old Rule and the new Border turned on simultaneously. When I turned the Rule off, leaving only the Border above, the problem cleared up.

As I illustrated above, setting up a style for 1st paragraph rule led to a line both above and below the paragraph. Now, if I set up a paragraph border style it puts a line above and below - refer to 3 attached screen shots. I cannot figure out why it is applying the bottom line, which has the characteristics of a Rule Below line. Why?

Unfortunately I cannot get a "Rule Above" style to work properly. To see the problem: • refer to "01 Rule Below" for style for the 2nd paragraph; • refer to "02 Using Rule Below" to see how it applies...very nice line below 2nd paragraph. Then: • refer to "03 Rule Above" for style for the 1st paragraph; • refer to "04 Using Rule Above" to see how it applies...it puts in a line both above and below the 1st paragraph !!! Why?

Please refer to attached: 01 Screen Shot re Paragraph Rule. I find the controls for the application of the rule abstruse - settings as per 02 Screen Shot re Paragraph Rule with "Rule Below" yields a line above and a line below both paragraph. My thought was to create a paragraph style with a line above (Rule Above) for the 1st paragraph, and a 2nd style (Rule Below) for the 2nd but I still end up with at least one line in between. Thanks in advance for assistance.

I have automate page title set up in a document: refer to image 01 Master showing its presence on the Master; image 02 Pages 14-15 shows it working; but starting on page 16 it nolonger functions - see image 03 Pages 16-17. I set this document up months ago and I am just getting back to work on it but have encountered an issue that I cannot seem to resolve by reveiwing the online Adobe notes: Please refer to Screen Shot 01. I have found that the space between a footnote number at the bottom of a page - such as 17 - and the point at which text forming part of the footnote - Ibid... - varied from footnote to footnote on other pages; I therefore went into the Footnote Options and confirmed that the paragraph style that should be used was correctly selected, please refer to Screen Shot 02; I then opened the Options for the Paragraph Style and set a tab as per Screen Shot 03; and, inserted a trial footnote, shown as 18. Returning to Screen Shot 01, we see that the point at which text forming part of footnote 18 is located more than 0.25 inch to the right of number 18 (the 0.25 indent is shown by the light blue guideline). How do I remedy this? Thanks in advance!

I cannot remember the keyboard shortcut that opens a window that has about 6 or 7 tabs across the top that allow for the formating of various aspects of text and tables such as "Numbers", "Alignment", "Borders", etc. I thought it was Command + 1 but that does not do it. I have looked at online collections of shortcuts but cannot find what I am looking for. Assistance will be greatly appreciated.

In the attached file the cell in the left column with the words "8. Old Age (65+)" has a cell style with an 8.5 pt font. However, the font shows as only 8.0 pt. and I cannot find a way to get the style to apply. What have I missed? Thanks in advance!

I have been creating a timeline using graphic boxes with fills and gradients, please see attached Screen Shot 2022-02-04 | 220204. How do I: • remove the gradient so that I have a solid fill; • determine which specific swatch I used in the box (I have an extensive collection of swatches in which I often have numerous tints for a single colour)? I cannot seem to find a way to identify a swatch used in a box once a it has been applied. In the case of this timeline, I began working on it about a year ago, then had to address other projects, and I am only getting back to it now, hence no memory of which swatch was used where. Please see attached image "Replicate table cells 01". I would like to reproduce a cell cluster within this table. Specifically, there are a series of rows and columns beginning with a green cell with text "Movement between Levels" and ending with the lowest green cells that I would like to replicate on the right hand side of the table - there will be slight changes to the text in the reproduced cells but the structure needs to be the same in order to do a compare-and-contrast. I have found some help info online but nothing that gets what I need - I have tried a copy/paste of the cells in question but end up with the same full table all over again and it isn't contiguous with what is already there. How can I do this? Thanks in advance.
