I just figured it out or found a work-around - see Not Centred 07 attached. Thanks.

Hi, I only had a single cell selected - to show this I have redone the screen shot of the cell in question, see Not Centred 04. Note: baseline grid is shown in pink. I do not see any way in which the text is even faintly close to centered as illustrated by the two copies of a graphics box used to illustrate the substantial vertical misalignment between the space above the text and the space below the text. The cell options for the cell shown in 04 are shown in Not Centred 05 where First Baseline Offset, Min and Text Rotation are all blank - again, only a single cell is selected. Finally, Not Centred 06 (Paragraph Style Options for that cell's style) shows Align Grid set to None. I do not understand how to get the text centred.

As per the subject line, I have a table with a number of cells where I would like the text to be centred vertically, but it is not doing so - refer to image Not Centred 01, attached, where two identical boxes with orange strokes illustrate the discrepancy. Image Not Centred 02 shows cell style info, and image Not Centred 03 shows paragraph style info. How do I correct this? Thanks in advance !

I am working on a table with quite a few different requirements for fills, text justification, strokes, etc. To manage these requirements I am setting up cell styles. Everything is working well except for the strokes. I have read Adobe's online help articles and the whole business of applying strokes strikes me as counterintuitive, or some kind of homage to Dante...or the problem is operator error on my part. Please refer to Table Cell Strokes 01, attached, showing a cell with an image of hands and a plant. I have not been able to get what I need in terms of strokes which is: • solid stroke at top and right; • no stroke at left; • dashed stroke at bottom. When I select the cell and open the cell style dialogue box at Strokes and Fills, what I see at this point in my "exploration" is captured in Table Cell Strokes 02. How do I get the arrangemet of strokes that I need? Thanks in advance! When I select the

Please refer to 01 Screen Shot and 02 Screen Shot, attached. I have an author's quotation made up of 3 small paragraphs. In 01 I used my paragraph style for quotations. However, I don't want a blank line between the paragraphs so I used a soft return and got what is shown in 02, which is not what I want. The paragraph style has justification set to Left Justify. How do I modify the style to eliminate the 3 words spreading out over the whole line? Thanks in advance.

I created a table 2 years ago and I am now altering it. The Cell Style pane shows a + sign after the name of the style used in the cell shown with highlighted text in attached screen shot labelled 01 Cell Style panel. I understand that the + sign indicates that something is going on in the cell that is "more" than the style but I cannot figure out what the "more" is. I have also attached two screen shots of related panels: • 02 Table panel; • 03 Paragraph Style panel. If I hold down the Option key and click on the cell style (Mac) to remove the +, the 0.25 inch margin at the top shown in the Table panel changes to 0.05 inch and the text goes right to the top. So it appears that the cell style includes a top margin of 0.05 rather than the 0.25 inch that I want. How do I save the cell style so that it has a top margin of 0.25? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I have opened a table that I created 2 years ago. How do I determine the height of an existing row in the table? Cell Options / Rows and Columns allows me to set minimum and maximum height but I cannot remember how to find the actual existing height of a selected row. Thanks in advance.

I subsrcibed to InDesign a few days ago and posted a question on Adobe Support Community. At the time I noticed the Topics and the thought I would follow a few. Later, when I discovered the number of Adobe Support Community Mailers this dumped into my email inbox, I went back and turned "Follow" off for the Topics I had selected. At least I thought I did - I am still receiving piles of Mailers which seem to be related to the "How To" Topic. Attached screen shot Adobe Support 01 shows all Topics set to "Unfollow"; Attached screen shot Adobe Support 02 shows Notifications in my Account Settings. I am sure that I will again need to post questions to the "How To" Topic and I would like to be notified when I receive a reply but I really need to stop the flow of other posts - how do I do that? Thanks in advance!

I have not used InDesign for a few years. I have opened an old file; on one of the pages I have a graphic object. I need to move the object off to the side of the page but when I do so I can no longer see it. I have forgotten how to make objects that are off the page visible - how is this done? Thanks in advance for assistance.

I am using version 2020.013.20074. I have been creating a series of stamps to use in marking up documents. During the preparation I had initially placed them in a category named "Asterisk". For various reasons having to do with subject matter I decided to change the category name to "Mysticism" - I did so by opening the Manage window, selecting the stamps one by one and changing the category name. When I went to apply the stamps, I opened the Pallets window, selected the category Mysticism and found it was blank. I found the stamps for Mysticism were actually now under a category previously created called "Shop Drawing Review" (multiple copies of the Mysticism stamps appear in this pallet. The stamps for the "Shop Drawing Review" category do not show up under any other category name in the Pallets window but they do exist under "Shop Drawing Review" when I select the Stamps icon in the Comment bar. What is happening? Thanks in advance. Michael

I just realized that all I did was keep splitting and merging cells in each column until I had a close approximation of the heights of cells that I needed. Thanks for the responses,I wish i had remembered this earlier.

This still does not seem to get at the issue due to the fact that I was not clear about what I am trying to do. The following image is of a table I was working on before Christmas. The cells in columns 1 and 2 are all the same height. Somehow I managed to figure out how to vary the number of cells and their heights in columns 3 and 4. I have now come back to the table and want to finish it by completing column 5 which needs to have 5 cells that, like the cells in columns 3 and 4, have their own individual heights. My problem is that I cannot remember how I was able to format the cell heights in columns 3 and 4. My apologies for the initial lack of clarity - I somehow thought it was simple.

Your upper table shows the general idea of what I am attempting to create except I was identifying 2 columns, not 2 rows: a Column A with 5 cells and a Column B with 4 cells, and both columns having the same height. I understand that I can create 5 rows in both columns and then merge 2 of them in Column B to get 4 cells, but I need the horizontal strokes of the 4 cells to not line up with the horizontal strokes of the 5 cells. What I do not understand is how to manipulate the horizontal strokes of the 4 cells in order to achieve this condition.

Thanks, so simple. I noticed that I have a second issue: I have a number of text boxes and the text in all boxes uses the same paragraph style however there is more space between the top of the box and the first line of text in some instances than in others. What causes this...i.e., how to I get them to be the same? Again, thanks in advance.

Thanks. Some of the entries are staggered, that is, they do not span a full row or occupy portions of adjacent rows. Is the only way to accomplish such an arrangement to split cells as necessary and then resize split cells so that the visual effect is correct (including hiding horizontal Lines as necessary). It just seems a bit non-computer like.

Yes, thanks, that solved that issue, however, it immediately presented another one. I was using the Master that I had created for bibliography pages when the problem you solved arose. Now, I have gone to a different file in which the bibliography resides and I want to copy/paste its content into the file I am using for the book (long story as to why biblio was started in a different file - more "not knowing InDesign" stuff). As shown in the image below, I have added pages for the biblio, starting at page 18. Pages 1 to 17 use a body text Master. The text boxes on pages 1-17 are linked. Page 18 is the start of a new section. I have been digging around in Help but cannot find info on best practice when starting a new section, i.e., do I begin page 18 with a text block that is NOT linked to the text blocks flowing through to the end of page 17? If the biblio should begin with a text box not linked to the text before it, does that mean when I add a section after the biblio for figures and then another for the index, that each of these sections should have their own text boxes not linked to the body text or to text in any other section (and, by implication, when the book's body tex gets beyond 17 pages, I add additional pages at that point in the structure to accommodate more body text?) [Branched by moderator from "Find/Replace italics with character style?" This is a new topic.] .

Jane-e and Rob: Thank you for your helpful suggestions - I have had a limited education in the use of InDesign and have used it for a limited series of tasks in the past, hence my reason for resorting to the forum. It is a relief to receive responses that move the conversation forward (Barb Binder responded when I had some questions a few weeks ago and her information was also very helpful). I hope this image provides the info you are asking for:
