I'll say upfront that I've read some, but no all of the previous responses, so excuse me if I'm repeating something that has already been said. I will often shoot RAW + JPEG if I'm shooting for some customers like news media. It is both a bacxk-up and a speed thing for filing for publication. I use Canon gear, so I tend to use Canon EOS Utility to download from my cameras to a laptop if on the road, or my desktop at home. I have though used the Bridge Downloader and just windows explorer on occasion too. Those three options handle the file naming differently. I don't have any cards with images on them right now to do this and be specific for each one, but sometimes the RAW files will come across as say 1L61234.CR2 and the matching JPEG files comes across as 1L61234_1.JPG. When these all go into the same location on download and you open that folder in Bridge, you will see this. If you select all the files and Batch Rename, you'll end up with different filenames for the RAW and the JPEG. Different sequence numbers, not the same sequence number with a ''_1'' appended. After that, no matter what you do, Bridge will not be able to associate those files together again. What you need to do is use the Batch Rename to do a string substitution that removes the ''_1'' append, so that the filename preffixes are identical. Once that is done, you just select the RAW files and the XMP and JPG files will be treated as a unit along with the RAW file. I'll have to check this with the latest version of Bridge that I have here, but I'm in the middle of some other work. I also use PhotoMechanic to ingest files directly from the cameras too. It will rename both RAW and Associated JPEG files identically as well. It is also much quicker to preview and tag images than Bridge.
