Yeah, everything is still being cracked, but on top of that people are hating them much more because of the forced subscription model and the broken promises to keep old AS2 cabable Flash CS6 always available. Animate is a wreck of a program, while Flash CS6 is almost entirely bug-free and performs much better.   If I were not so involved with Flash/Animate, I would have abandoned Adobe a long time ago.   Companies like those who develop Moho and ToonBoom are much more sensible with their licensing policies and the respect they show for their user base.   ... The best way to preview animation quickly is to get into the habit of pressing Ctrl+Enter and publishing a SWF.   You cannot rely on timeline playback for accuracy of timing, but if your audio is really set to 'stream' and all appears timed well, when you scrub the playback head, then you should be alright.   ... @kglad  Yes, both are instances of the same Graphic Symbol, which is a container of a character rig, containing symbol instances each one on its own layer. The one on the left has 50% alpha applied to the instance; the one on the right has 'advanced layers' frame effect and filter.   Explanation: In the pre so called 'advanced' layers era one could use the Layer Blending Mode on a Movie Clip and apply 'object' alpha to get this result. Since the introduction of the so called 'advanced' layers, Layer Blending Mode does not work any more. (This is a bug which has been reported multiple times over the years and ignored, like many others.) A workaround is to use a null frame filter. Filters render as bitmaps, therefore serve a similar purpose as the Layer Blending Mode, by non-destructively turning the container into a bitmap.   ... View more

In digital cutout animation, the same audio is usually put in at least 3 places: the main timeline for export, the animation timeline (let's call it 'main container'), and inside the character's head for lipsync. The head and the container are run in sync with the main timeline.   Working directly on the main timeline is considered very bad practice. Even if you animate frame-by-frame, you should always do it at least one level deep. Putting all your animation inside at least one container gives you the option to quickly re-scale, re-compose or edit. You can easily nudge, i.e. add or remove frames with the [F5] or [Shift+F5] shortcut.  I have changed that to [Z] and [Shift+Z] which is even easier to press. You can press and hold, or press multiple times. Without a selection this would work on the whole timeline. With a selection on the selected spans. If you select, for example, a block of 5 frames, 5 frames will be added or removed, and so on...   The timeline navigation may be a little different, but is fully-functional, so maybe if you do a screen recording in which you show the specific problems you face, users here would be able to guide you on the optimal way of dealing with them.   ... Hi mate,   Just to give you some context: Animate is Flash and has completely different origins from After Effects and Premiere. Historically the timeline could not be zoomed it at all. It only had 3 presets and that is perfectly fine.   The way the Flash timeline is used differs from the way Premiere/AE timeline is used.   I'm not saying that this kind of zooming you desire would be harmful if added, but it is not needed in any way. I have been using Flash/Animate for many years for creating professional broadcast animation and never feel the need to zoom in or out.   Good luck with your projects! ... View more
