A number of things to look at here. I know you log on with Admin rights but was RH installed with your logon rather than an IT persons? You are using X5? Earlier versions will not work with Word 2003. Have you installed the patches for X5? What is your Word macro security level? I really don't know what else to suggest. This looks like one of those problems where you have to see the actual project and be able to replicate the problems. By chance I was working on a similar thing this morning. I had been told that if in a merge there were say three topics with the same title, auto sync would highlight the first one. I set up a merge test and found that it worked just fine. I have just been to that project and created some inter project links between the topics with the same file name and topic id. The autosynchronisation is working correctly always showing the correct topic when you click the Back button. I therefore do not think the file name and topic id is the cause of the problem. Marjorie It does seem that you are continually having to go to extraordinary lengths to do anything with your project. I don't recall anyone having to reapply browse sequences after generating printed documentation. That plus the fact that it fixed things after recreating a topic makes wonder about the documents in your project. Are they very large? Also I cannot help but wonder if there is some sort of corruption in the files. I think an old trick with RH for Word to deal with corruption was, after taking a copy of the whole project, to delete the rtf files while the project was closed and then re-open it so that new rtf files are created. Alan I just ran a five minute test and I think I can see the problem and it is nothing to do with RoboEngine. I generated ordinary webhelp with a skin but all buttons deselected and got the three pane window. Then I set the skin option to None and got the single pane you want. Changed my output to webhelp pro and found you have to select a skin. So as far as I can see, it is impossible to produce webhelp pro without a skin. ... View more

I don't see how we can expect Adobe to release a patch to make RH X5 compatible with a beta release of Office 12. Why would they want to do that if their plan is to make the next version of RoboHelp the one that is compatible with Office 12? I thought the final version of Office 12 was not scheduled to be released until early next year along with Vista. Alan The only way I have got bulleting and numbering to work is, as per my topic, to use the toolbar icons in RH and map to Normal style. The bulleting and numbering carries across better than any other way. You mention that you cannot see the list styles in Word but in my topic I specifically indicate that will not work satisfactorily. Second I would emphasise the use of the Style Mapping template doing it as covered in the topic. I am not saying other templates will not work but they are the first thing to suspect when things go wrong, no matter how good their provenance. I wonder if you are reading my topic online. I really would recommend printing that one. It's lengthy so a slow read and making plenty of annotations is the best way to get your mind around it. Kathy's idea of a macro so that you can apply the bulleting and numbering afterwards to named styles sounds like a good solution too. Take some time out to work through the problem and the advice slowly. It should fall into place as what you cover is covered in my topic and Kathy's reply. Don't believe all that you read! I don't have a copy of the Guide to hand but I do know RH has to be installed to the user's hard disk, whatever any document may say. There's a whole topic on my site about installing RoboHelp. In theory you can have your project on a network drive. In practice this forum is littered with posts from people who have run into problems that are cured by moving the project from the network to their hard disk. Often others will pop up saying their project runs just fine on a network. Sometimes they later post a problem and guess what... Underpinning RH is an Access database so I probably don't need to say much more about why having projects on a network is an issue. It's a different ball game if the project is on a network drive under source control. What happens there is the required files are pulled off to the hard disk. ... View more

As we are talking about merged webhelp, I wouldn't put anything in the parent project. Make that a blank page with a redirect to the main child project. Are we talking about installing RH onto a server or having a RH project on a network drive? The first, quite apart from any licencing issues, will not work. RH has to be installed onto a local drive with the user's logon and with admin rights.
