I've just done some testing on this and found the problem and solution are not quite as simple as thought. First, as far as my tests showed, the problem only arises with IE. The highlighting works in Firefox. Second the solution does indeed work in IE but it makes things worse in Firefox. It removes the highlighting from the previously highlighted topic but does not move to the correct book. So it's a great solution if you know your users are IE only but you may be better off leaving things untouched if you have no control over the browser used or know it will be Firefox. ... View more

You didn't say what the output is but I am guessing it is webhelp, otherwise you would not have those files. Do you have a whole bunch of files that start wh*? If you do, then you are looking at output. The source files would have been on the PC of the author, at least, they should have been. Possible that was wiped when they left? If so, you will need to find backups of the source by search across the whole network. I believe Google's desktop search will only work on local drives. Hmm! This is a bit worrying as without user intervention, the used file list just grows and the field list the projects will display a slide bar showing all projects ever opened. The limit is defined via Tools | Options and the default is 100. I believe only two things remove a project from the list. One is the user deleting the item via Tools | Options and the other is the xpj file no longer exists. When you say you can see the files in the directory, are you sure you are looking at source files? What type of output are you generating? Can you see an hhp file in the RH HTML project and is the Word document in the RH for Word project? ... View more

All I meant by "unusual" is that most RH users will have Program Files on their C drive. I don't know if perhaps RH looks on the C drive for RoboPDF, perhaps it shouldn't but that is not the same thing. RH for Word is a version of RH that uses Word documents as source files rather than HTML files. You mentioned "a project built from my source Doc file" which made me think you were using RH for Word. I am not sure what else to suggest. It is unusual for Program Files to be on anything but the C drive so I wonder if you have some sort of unusual set up that is maybe causing this problem. It sounds like you may be using RH for Word. Have you tried the same thing in RH HTML and does it give the same problem? Are you the user whose login was used to install RH? If not, do you have that username and password? If not then reinstallation will be a requirement although I cannot guarantee it will fixt the problem. ... View more

This should only be a problem to you when you generate or publish your output to your hard disk. The webhelp is presumably going to be installed on a server for your users and the problem will not arise. You ask this question of Macromedia. Hi Liz What works for you is really what matters. What I was really getting at is that it should not be necessary to go to the lengths you are. One area I want to be certain we understand each other on. When you install RH, it creates a folder called something like C:\Program Files\RoboHelp Office\RoboHTML\PrintDocExt and that folder contains the templates used when generating a printed output, unless of course you use your own which I do not recommend, seperate discussion. When you generate the printed output the first time, RH takes a copy of whichever template you select in the dropdown in the last page of the wizard from that folder, unless of course you browse to some other templates. That copy is then in your project and is the one used in future. Unless you are using some other template, we are at one so far. Both on the forum and in direct emails to me, a large number of problems are solved by using the Style Mapping template. Is that what you are using? After backing up the installed templates, I changed the styles in Style Mapping .dot in C:\Program Files\RoboHelp Office\RoboHTML\PrintDocExt so that all projects have the style I require. If you are using ANY other template, I really would recommend trying that one. If it solves your problems, then tweaking the styles is simple enough. I produce documents the size you describe with plenty of tables and graphics but I do not have the problems you describe. Hence feeling that there must be a way of making things easier for you. ... Liz There is a lengthy topic on my site about printed documentation. I read your post with interest but I am not sure how it helps. The CPU will always show a high figure when you generate and your method still requires RH to produce an initial document. The trick of missing the last paragraph mark when cutting and pasting is an old word trick that does indeed avoid bringing across unwanted information such as headers and footers but I don't believe it can cure real corruption. Are we talking about corruption or something unwanted? Ultimately what you are doing, if I have read correctly, is pasting your first document into a new document and then reapplying the styles and I am struggling to understand how that can fix anything. When you generate a document, RH imports the template into your project and after that it has no link to the templates that reside in the RH files in Program Files. This makes me wonder if you problem is with the local copy and what you are doing is fixing it by going back the master copy. Have you tried trashing the local copy and starting over so that a fresh local copy is created using the styles that seem to be working for you? Please don't think I am trying to rubbish what you have suggested. Far from it. I just want to understand the logic. ... View more

In the output files you could search for the closing body tag </body> and replace it with the required html including replacing the closing body tag. You will have to select the folders to be included in the search and replace as the output has its own files that you do not want to alter. FAR from http://www.helpware.net would be a good tool. ...
