I'd like to be able to generate a list of images and their effective resolution.   eg: jimi_hendrix.jpg   page 5    350dpi django_reinhardt.jpg   page 8    220dpi   Two questions really. [1] Can InDesign do this itself, or is there anything offthe-shelf, like a plugin, that can? [2] I found a couple of scripts that listed images but not the resolutions. I have turned some page headings into hyperlinks and applied a character style to underline them ("Hyperlink underline") via the Edit Hyperlink Dialogue box. Not all headings need a hyperlink. The underline just helps to suggest which ones do.   When making a Table of Contents, and pulling those headings in as page entries, I am assigning a new paragraph style to them, but the problem is, the character style applied at the "Edit Hyperlink" dialogue box, is honoured in the Table of Contents, and stops further styling in the Table of Contents (by GREP styles for example).   I'm surprised the ToC honours the character style like this. I guess my only option is to have two different paragraph styles for the headings – one that is underlined for when the heading is hyperlinked, and one that is not underlined for when there is no hyperlink.   Or am I missing something more fundamental? ... I've set up a master page spread (A-master) with a separate coloured-rectangle covering the whole page on each side. While the two rectangles "touch" in the centre, each rectangle is only wholly on one page without overlapping onto the next.   I have applied master pages as follows: page 1 (blank) page 2 left (blank)  page 3 right (A-master right)   However, the rectangle from A-master LEFT is appearing on page 2, completely covering it. Is there some special voodoo that means masterpage items for one side sometimes appear on the other side (where they're not wanted!). ... View more

I'm trying to write a GREP that will check for commas and full stops that don't have whitepspace after them.   It would look for the two issues in this paragraph.Missing spaces after the fullstop,and also the comma.   The problem is that it also finds all the URLS such as:   www dot bob dot com (<--- had to write it like this or the forum didn't like it!).   I've used many variations around this sort of idea: ([\.,])[^ ].*(?!\.com)   ... but it's just greedy and grabs the whole URL rather than ignoring it.   I should add that my documents contain an annoying number of URL suffixes, such as .co.uk, .com, .au! ... Next document Shortcut – Cmd+tilde   Has something happened in the latest release to the above shortcut? I know in acrobat the shortcut to switch to the next document is ctrl+tab, it used to be cmd+tilde in InDesign but doesn't appear to function any more. I can't find it in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings (how I wish that was searchable!).   Any ideas? ... View more

I was working through Peter Kahrel's Grep In InDesign book but am stumped. Let's say I'm trying to change cat to dog but honour the case of the first letter of the word.    FIND: (?!)cat(?=[s \.,]) REPLACE: dog   Shouldn't that replace cat with dog and Cat with Dog? Doesn't for me at least. The only difference I can see between the version in the book and mine is that I've include a positive lookahead.   If this isn't the place to ask about Greps in InDesign please let me know where is, I do want to post questions to the appropriate place.  ... I'm struggling to figure out the best way to resize images so that they fit with set maximum parameters. I'm thinking an action is probably the best way to do this?   Let's say a maximum 1200px, max height of 900px.   I want to maintain the aspect ratio and don't mind if I end up with 1200w x 400h, or 800h x 900w as neither max dimension has been exceeded. I can do one or the other, but haven't figured out how best to do both. I can only imagine this is a common thing to want to do, but I'm probably using the wrong search terms or have fundamentally overlooked something which is obvious to others (but not to me!)   Thanks! ... I can open an individual PDF and export via: File > Export To > Image > TIFF and I get a great TIFF   If I try to do that with an action using what looks like exactly the same settings, I get no TIFFs and simply get the error log "message: No processable images found to extract".   [-]BlahBlahBlah.pdf(Succeeded) Export All Images As TIFF Command Name: Export All Images As TIFF Command Start Time: 2020-05-26 17:46:16 reportType: Warning errorCode: 0 message: No processable images found to extract Command Status: Succeeded Command Finish Time: 2020-05-26 17:46:16   Does anyone know of a reason for this? ... I'm having an issue with a table cell stroke that, try as I might, won't conform to what I want it to.  I've set all the cells to have a 1pt japanese dot border of colour 'paper'. However, cell A2 (if it were a spreadsheet) always seems to show a solid border, although suspiciously the corner of the stroke looks rounded. This happens also when the cell is merged with A1 (see below).    Note, I'm not using table headers or footers. Row A is just a standard row. The different cell styles are defined under "Cell Styles" and I've cleared both "cell attributes not defined by style" and "clear overrides in selection".   I've attached a file with the content removed apart from one of the tables that has the issue.   All help gratefully received, I've really been puzzling over this one for an unhealthy amount of time!   ... Hoping to get some tips from successful InDesign scipters who didn't know any JS when they started. I really want to start in ID scripting - I have some experience with PHP and some other types of coding, but not JS.  In the past for programming I've bought books like the 24hours series and learned a huge amount of PHP from a PHP "cookbook". What's the best way into ID scripting? Start with JS? Or just make a brute force assault on the "Adobe InDesign CS6 Scripting Guide: JavaScript"? Whenever I look into JS the tutorials just seem to be about JS for the web.  ... View more
