Is there a way to have each open InDesign document display the same page? Is there a way to choose the reference point without clicking. It would be very helpful to be able to so this for some of my macros, or so I could preselect a reference point (so the grid always appears in a reliable way with the same ref point selected) then use "Click at found image" in Keyboard Maestro.     ... Let's say that I want to create a hyperlink in InDesign midsentence, that goes to the end of the sentence. Don't click this link, I'm just showing what sort of thing I mean. I don't want the hyperlink underline to extend under the final full stop. To me it doesn't look right. However, when I make my selection, carefully NOT selecting the final full stop, sometimes the resulting hyperlink includes the full stop, sometimes it doesn't. Furthermore, if I decide I don't want to keep them, it's not obvious how to automate this and so seems to require a manual intervention ever time.   Is this just me? I'm trying to find  something that matches a lookbehind of spaces or opening brackets but can't make it work. I want to be able to find a b c when preceeded by a space or opening bracket, but not capturing the space or bracket.   I want it to be the following but it seems classes don't work in positive lookbehind: (?<=[ \(])[acb] Looks simple enough but much googling is yielding nothing, I'm probably seartching for the wrong terms. ... I have been given a PDF with a few hundred comments. When I open it however, the comments seem to create a set of duplicates. The duplicated set cannot be checked or deleted or otherwise edited, making tracking what has been done problematic.   I did some searching on the forums and found this script:   https://www.try67.com/tool/acrobat-reader-dc-remove-duplicate-comments It reports an error when installed and acrobat is opened (GeneralError: Operation failed. App.addToolButton:9:Folder-Level:User:RemoveDuplicateComments.js The name for the toolbutton must be unique)   I've emailed the author for help but in the meantime, if anyone knows of any other method for removing duplicate comments, or knows what causes them, I'd be grateful to hear about it.   I suspect the PDF (mine originally) was commented by the proofreader using something other than acrobat (I have no way to check easily, proofreading was done elsewhere in a long project chain) and the commenter is identified only as "Windows" where I'd expect to see a name (not terribly useful), but either way I have to work from this!    I'm using all the latest Adobe CC versions of everything on MacOS Big Sur (Mac Mini M1). ... How do you guys handle importing word documents that have few styles, but dozens of 'override styles' - things that are not defined as styles but are clearly vaguely similar formatting?   I tried to use DTP Tools 'power styles' to assign them to actual styles, but every little nuanced change creates a new style and something like 60 different styles were generated.   I know I could just paste it in as plain text and brute force my way through after defining a smaller and more carefully chosen set of my own styles - but is there a better approach. I've got quite a few documents to work through that have been prepared in roughly the same way (and don't really expect them to be terribly consistent!).   Thanks!   ... View more

I'm working through "JavaScript for InDesign" (second edition) by Peter Kahrel. I'm on MacOS Big Sur so have installed VS Code, set the launch.json from some youtube instructions and managed to get the basic hello world alert working without any problems. However, in Chapter 6 "InDesign’s Object Model" section I'm trying to do the equivalent of what is being asked to be done in the ESTK (app.selection[0] resulting in JavaScript console feedback "[object InsertionPoint]") and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this sort of feedback in VS Code. I thought I was onto something in the docsforadobe.dev "JavaScript Tools Guide CC" section called "Getting Started with the VS Code Debugger" but don't have a menu option Debug > Start Debugging (if that's even what I'm supposed to be doing?!). Producing PDFs for viewing as spreads with cover page for screen only, is there anything that can be done in indesign to force this without having to either [1] create it so the spreads are actually output as a single page or [b] get users to select the view options "two page view" and "Show cover page in two page view" themselves?   Relying on users selecting various options is just going to result in the DPS order being completely incorrect for casual readers who don't know much about Acrobat, right? I'm trying to GREP the whole of something similar to the following. There are paragraph returns at the end of each line. Regardless of my/your/our thoughts on the structure, I'd like to find a GREP that can capture the lot, including the quotes.   "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. Aenean a finibus odio. Vivamus vitae eleifend quam, vel faucibus quam. Donec mollis ut arcu a pretium. Suspendisse vitae egestas erat."   The paragraph returns are breaking my attempts however. I'm not after something that I'll hit "Replace all" on, I'm happy to supervise it. So not to worry too much about false positives.     ... View more
