This is currently only in the Beta, so use the general release if you don't want the feature at all. But you can turn it off under Preferences > Selection and Anchor Display > Artboard Display.   Edit: it's in the general release as of version 30. ... View more

3D & Materials is a raster effect. You can turn on 'render as vector' in the 3D panel options and it'll rasterise at your monitor's resolution. If you want the wireframe as vectors, try 'Expand Appearance', but it won't give you extruded curves like the old 3D effect. ... View more

I can get somewhat close with this layout: Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to get Illustrator to treat the years as strings instead of numbers (hence the label).
