PProPanel shows how to insert a projectItem, then delete the added audio portion. You could also programatically change each projectItem's footage interpretation (as Mike suggests doing manually), insert the "video only", then revert the footage interpretation.

Hard to say, without specifics. Recommendation: Set breakpoints and debug on a QA's system, and confirm that all the parameters you're passing to performSceneEditDetectionOnSelection() are valid.

Neil's right; PPro is an NLE, not a render service. All PPro users have a license for AME. Also, dynamic link usage isn't necessary; you could also use watched folders (save a project to the right location, and AME will render all sequences at the project root, using default settings), or just use AME directly.
