Opening projects created in an older version should work fine, so long as the platform was the same for both. In other words, if created in CS6 on a Windows machine, and you want to open it on C2019 on a Windows machine, it will likely work. The warning is normal when opening projects created in older versions. PP will create a new project file and give it a new name, keeping the original project file untouched.

One thing I'm confused about. Timelines only reflect what's in the Program Monitor, never what's in the Source Monitor. So if you've loaded a sequence into the Source Monitor, you don't also need to open it in a timeline panel. You just need the timeline you're going to edit it into. In other words, you use the Source Monitor, or pancake editing (timeline to timeline), but not both.

In my experience, sampling rate won't affect sync. One second is one second. No matter how many samples are in that second, PP will take one second to play it back. Sampling rate only determines the upper frequencies of the recording. (Half the sampling rate is the highest frequency you can capture.) I've never had a problem mixing 48, 44.1 and even 32 sampling rates in the same sequence. It's also my experience that poorly made audio recorders will drift even when the sampling rate matches, whereas a well made recorder won't drift. I found the Zoom H4n well made, and am currently using the Zoom F4 without any sync issues even over 2 hour recordings. Having said that, and having used some poorly made audio recorders that required attention, my habit was to line things up at the start of the clips, then adjust the speed of the audio until they also lined up at the end.

I want to open multiple Project PANELS, not multiple projects. You get one Project panel per project. Two panels means two separate projects are open. (So be careful. Telling them apart is not always obvious.)

Adobe has mislabeled things in Premiere Pro. "Smart Rendering" refers to the process of creating a new file from GOP-based media without reencoding it. Knowing where the GOP boundary is and using that, rather than the editor defined In/Out points, is what makes it "smart". Currently, Adobe software is not capable of Smart Rendering anything. With non-GOP codecs like ProRes and DNx, it is possible to get an export without reencoding, but that's just a straight file copy, that is not Smart Rendering.

To keep the original quality, you need a codec that will make the files larger. You can't have both quality and small files. You'll need to choose. For things like this, I always recommend using Cineform YUV 10 bit. Quality 3 is probably sufficient.

I've seen folks report this when the Program Monitor is too small due to insufficient screen size/resolution. Make sure you're using a 24" 1080 screen at a minimum. (Yes, that means Laptops are not suitable for this kind of work.)

Inside my company it is not possible to get admin rights. If they want you to do the work, they'll have to change their policy. You can take the machine off the network if necessary. Adobe has a program to limit the CC License check.

I'm not suggesting you lied. I'm saying if the issue was a phase problem, then the playback on the computer wasn't "fine". Out-of-phase audio is very obvious. Even if you don't yet understand the cause, one can still hear that something is wrong.

What if you were given a hard drive full of mkv files to edit by a client? I would seriously consider turning down the job, as such a client isn't likely to be a professional, but a consumer who (very frequently, in my experience) brings unrealistic expectations about price and timing.

I wonder if it is still as important as it once was (speed-wise, not organization-wise, of course) I still make the five drive recommendation for both speed and organization. The System, Project and Cache drive can all be SSDs and you likely won't see any speed improvement separating out those function to separate drives, so there the recommendation is purely for organizational reasons. While you can use SSD's for Media and Exports, depending on the workload, that can quickly become pretty pricey or even impossible. There are no 12 TB SSD's for example, and creating an SSD RAID that size would cost far more than a spinner.
