You will hae to contact Graphtec to see if they have plans to update the plugin to work with current version of Adobe Illustrator. There may also be other CAM software to drive the cutter that can either use Illustrator, EPS or SVG files. This is quite a normal CAM workflow to use teh design application to create the design and then use a websoftware or machine supplid driver to set speeds and feeds (and material specific settings) things that you would not do as a designer but are important for production/operator. ... You can use recolur artwork with the feature to limit colours to a swatch library or scheme. Try inserting the letter you are having prolems with from the glyphs panel, this should let you know if it is a font or formating (GREP style) issue. (Try also changing font, and use the story editor to make sure that the letter is registered).  If you an insert letters via the glyphs check your hardware.   Most operating systems have a keyboard viewer where you can check that the keyboard responds as it should, also you can try using a different/external keyboard. Note that there are ways to switch layouts to another language layout via the  Resetting shortcuts so that you invertently have not set a particular key to a shortcut/function is also an issue. Note that there can be shortcuts/macros set at operating system level… sometimes for all applications sometimes application specific. How are you importing the image? Do you place it in a text frame with a default font that you no longer have, or do you just place it so that InDesign creates a frame, or do you just drag and drop the JPG into indesign? Does this happen with every JPG? Does it also happen with GIF or PNG? Is it a particular JPG or Indesign document? I have never seen that dialog, and JPG would normally not have any font. Have you tried with different JPG? (Also are you sure it is a JPG, you can name a PDF .jpg and indesign will place it. ) ... View more

Remember that paper, board etc are 3D materials with a thickness, so even if it works as a sketch you will have to modify the guides moving the cuts and creases to compensate for outer gain and/or inner loss. If your material is a typical 0.3 mm board you can nudge the cuts/creases in increments of 0.15 mm (set your move increment to this) so that you don't have two panels in the same physical space.  ... If we are talking about publish online, then having a multistate object with 0,1,2,3, 4, 5 stars would sound like a logical solution. Above the MSO (Multi state object) you have buttons over the star areas where they on tap (or hover) go to that state. The tricky part is where do you want the Zero to be? An alternative is to have a button group for a star so that clicking on empty star hides the empty star and replaces shows filled star. And the reverse clicking the filled star shows the empty star and hides the filled star. Using the "show/hide button" works also for PDF, adding useful tool tips for Acrobat is not difficult but would be quite time consuming. ... View more

If you have a spot colour imported from another document you cannot edit its appearance in InDesign. If you create a Spot colour in InDesign then you can choose the values in RGB, CMYK, LAB etc You can use Separations Preview to see what spot colours you have. Spot colours are normally possible to change at the printer. (Rob explained better than me and with images) If you must change the colour you can create a new spot colour in InDesign (eg MyGold) and define it as you want it to appear, then use the Ink Manager to map your existing spot colour to alias, and then select the colour you have defined (MyGold) ... Just worth a mention that the new Pantone books differ from old pantone books even in the colours being mixed (But with the same Pantone Numbers)… and I'm even talking about Pantone on a specific substrate. If Pantone is note even consistent with itself how do we expect applications to be consistent. (We have two digital printers and noticed there was a variance in the colour, and when checking older and newer books we saw that the printer Pantone Libraries are consistent with the books for the same year as the release) differences can be in hue, lightness or saturation. ... Are the fonts PostScript fonts? These have reached end of lift and you cannot use with InDesign 2023 because backward compatibility would hinder InDesign to adopt modern text compositing. Photoshop stopped supporting PostScript Type 1 fonts over a year ago, and there has been a warning that this change was coming for some time. If this is the case contact your font vendor to see if they have an Open Type version of the font, there are also font conversion utilities (if your licence permits), or stick to using an older version of InDesign.  If this was not your issue then there would be a need of more information on the font you are having trouble with and the operating system you are using. ... DXF is tricky as a format. You can export to SVG, and use a webservice like easel. (https://easel.inventables.com/ to get your grbl/ G-code, may be you even can drive your machine, is it a CNC mill or Laser Cutter?) There are some good comunites for milling and lasercutting but it's outside the scope of the Adobe User groups.  I feel your pain, I have walked that road. At one point i found a script to export from illustrator. I later decided to buy V-Carve (costs some but when I found Easel too limiting that was the best option). Vcarve can import illustrator artwork, and even (OBJ files that I can create in Illustrator by using the 3D effects), so there is much fun to have where we start in the computer and move to the real world (though still struggling with feeds and speeds... snapped a milling bit as late as today) ... Is your laser printer and .nc cutting at same size? If you make a rectangle of known size will it be the right size in nc file? You can make a rectangle the size you want and make the text so that it matches the rectangle and ignore the "font size".   ( In breif the font size is from what size the block containing ascenders and decenders would need to be... but even this is not allways true, since the font designer can make the letters smaller or larger than that box.) ... You can set the units you want in illustrator, and even if the units is in points you can type "4" " if you want 4 inches. What can be confusing about type is how type is measured... but even here Illustrator has now the options to set the type from Cap height or X-height.
